I actually live a mile from there.
Its not a bad area with some nice houses. Stay away from the downtown area close to city hall. thats scary.
Northtowne plaza is not far from you where you can do grocery shopping. Plymouth meeting mall is not far either with some nice resturaunts and places to buy clothes. And then there is the metroplex on Chemical which has a target and some other nice stores. Norristown school district sucks.

My intent is to live there for about a year, while working on purchasing a home in any suburb near KoP where I'll be working. I'll be moving with my wife and our eight year old daughter. Any info or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Thanks for bumping this post up with your cautionary story SMancilla.

Just an FYI, this thread was started in 2008 and the OP has not been on C-D since that one post.

What are people current perception on Norristown? I've had to spend time driving through a lot recently due to change in my work and I've stopped in Norristown to get food and there are some good Mexican places. I think there is a lot of hype that it is North Philly or Kensington, granted I don't know the town too much but I think it has a lot of potential. Yea it is a little sketchy in some places but there are also some places that look pretty nice.

Norristown is actually not bad. Some places may look sketchy, but from my experience (when I lived there) was that it looked "worse" than it actually is.

I loved living there and if I could have picked up my house and moved it with me to upstate NY, I would have. Unfortunately, I am renting it out and going to be selling it.

I hope that I am right in that the perception of Norristown is improving, it would certainly help out in the sale of my house!

If you are looking for a good pizza place, Rocco's Brickoven on Sandy Hill Road is great.
