I, myself am might about to be transfered to the Phoenix area from Memphis, TN. My job will be in the Tolleson area. I have a girlfriend coming with me and we want to rent a house for about $800-$1100 a month in a good suburb. Familyu income is around the $70k mark. The commute to work is not that big of a factor considering I already have a 30-45 min. drive already. I have found a few houses around the 85043 zipcode for around that price and they look nice. Is this a safe area? Is there anything to do as far as laid back bars or restaurants in the area? Any advice would be helpful. I have never been to Phoenix and have no clue where to start but here.

Thanks yall.

Cave Creek, Scottsdale, Anthem, Fountain Hills all seem to fit your bill. For the Op.

I was looking at the Avondale, Glendale, Tolleson, or even Surprise areas. Which would be a better area?

If you are working in Tolleson I would suggest Avondale, Goodyear, (these towns are connected to Tolleson) or Tolleson itself. Surprise is more isolated and farther north. It borders Sun City, which is a retirement haven. Not much happening there. There are places to go out in the Goodyear/Avondale area. You are right off I-10,and can easily drive 15-20 minutes to downtown or central Phoenix for things to do also. Those towns should easily meet your needs.

My wife is from Memphis, and has been here with me since 2003, and has totally adapted to the Phoenix area, and greatly prefers it to Memphis.

I live in Surprise, and have lived in the north end of Goodyear and El Mirage before. Upon house hunting throughout all those cities, my thoughts became to avoid avondale and Glendale... if you want a safe place. Many people would probably disagree with me, but you'd probably have to look around like crazy to get a feel of every neighborhood to find one you'd approve of in those cities.

You could also look into Litchfield Park with your budget. It's, my personal opinion, the best city in the west valley. It feels safe, it looks safe, it's a reasonable distance to both highways and all major shopping surrounds it. If you look at it on a map, you'll see it's not too far from Tolleson... it's just merely west of Avondale, north of Goodyear, and south of Surprise. Rent options there, might, however, be limited. Many people desire that city. But it's worth a shot if you can afford it.
