Over the last decade I have consistently commuted into Phoenix and Scottsdale from my home in Gilbert, then Queen Creek. Well, after surviving the market downturn, our home is finally worth more than we owe, so we sold it and I'm moving my family to Scottsdale. I'm definitely stepping out of my comfort zone to leave all of the friends and family I have to move closer to work, but I'm also very hopeful that it will be a good move for our family. The schools are top rated, the city is beautiful, and in my experience, the reports of snobbery are way overblown. I'm very hopeful that we can make good friends, enjoy the commute-free living, and become long-term residents who give back to the community. Any tips from the locals to help us integrate and make this a good experience out of the gate are appreciated!

I'm sure you'll be happy here. Sorry, no tips... just the obvious...find an area to live where you'll feel comfortable. I love it .

I am doing the same thing, we will be moving out to Scottsdale in the next 3 or 4 months depending when we find the house that we like. We lived in South East Chandler 32 miles from work and two years ago moved into a rental in East Mesa to see what it would be like to commute from there which got me under 20 miles to work. I then got a job further north (figures) and we have finally decided that since almost every job I have had has been in Scottsdale that we may as well live in Scottsdale. I did however grow up in various areas of Scottsdale and PV so it will be like going back home for me and it will be nice to only have a few mile commute (hopefully) versus the now 34 miles commute that I have again.

Location, location, location - it's hard to beat.

We've lived in S-dale for a couple of years - and really enjoy it. During the "snowbird" season the traffic and congestion gets a bit annoying. We look forward to hot temps because we know that most visitors are on their way home and we get our little town back.
