Well, it is and it isn't. The summer monsoon CAN bring these types of storms, but they normally don't occur on a regular basis ... not every day anyway. Typically, the monsoon season as we know it runs from July to about the middle part of September. During this time, there are periods of higher humidity that help generate these thunderstorms, and then we have some breaks that bring in very hot & dry weather.

In Arizona, the more east & south you go, the more active the monsoon storms are. The more west you travel, the fewer the storms. Phoenix tends to be on the borderline, and many of the "storms" we get during the monsoon are leftovers from points east ... and they often come in the form of wind & dust, but not much rain (unfortunately). Once in a while, if we're lucky, the storms will hold together & the metro area will get a good soaking.

Pull over and TURN off your lights if they are on and do not put your foot on the brake. Cars behind you may think you are moving and ram into the back of your car. Have fun and enjoy your new home.
