Wow, I must be living in the dark ages. I just got a licensing bill for $98, including late fees. I had no idea my dog needed a license. I had her fixed over a year ago at the humane society...you would have thought they might mention that to me. Nope. But I am sure they kindly shared my information with animal control. So, do I pay this??? Website says it a type of misdemeanor not to....

If your dog gets loose/lost and you need to go pick her up at the pound, then yes, it will be an issue if your dog is not registered. However, if you are pretty darn sure you are going to keep your dog from getting loose/lost, then go buy something a lot more worthwhile and let the county suck the big one on the $98.

The problem is, now that they know about the dog the fee's and penalties are going to continue adding up and they will keep harassing you.

You can indefinitely ignore their letters, or if you choose to, you can just reply via USPS checking either the box that states: "I no longer own this dog", or "this dog has passed away". Either of these options will leave you with a $0.00 balance.

Unethical? Maybe... But then again, so is taxation.

No. We are definitely evolving into somewhat of a "Police State", however it is not quite that bad, yet... LOL

That will work to get this bill to go away, but the law DOES require licensing. Have the vet change its name on their records that goes with the rabies certificate, and license the dog. Perhaps not right away, so it doesn't raise suspicion, but soon. It's cheap for a spayed dog if you do it in a timely manner for future purposes.

GOOD GRIEF . . . licensing a dog is no different than licensing a vehicle.

You own and enjoy the dog . . . do the adult thing and PAY THE 98 BUCKS and consider it a LESSON LEARNED.

Bummer...it's not that. I can pay the fee...the dog IS spayed. It's the whole point. Clearly the humane society shared my info with animal control...why didnt they tell me the law then? Why didn't they advise animal control that my dog is spayed as well as had her rabies shot? It's just annoying....I just wanted to see what others had experienced....
