Just to remind everyone, two traffic intersections in south Gilbert along Val Vista (the Germann and Queen Creek intersections) have been changed to have leading left-turn arrows when coming from Val Vista onto Germann or Queen Creek. According to this article here, it is to reduce congestion along these intersections. Note that this only affects traffic coming from Val Vista, while traffic coming onto Val Vista from Germann or Queen Creek will remain with lagging left-turn arrows.

It looks like Gilbert might be rethinking their lagging left-turn strategy. Also note that the Gilbert-owned traffic signals along Baseline and along Power have always had leading left-turn arrows due to those roads sharing borders with other cities or towns.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gilbert switched more of its signals to leading left turns in the future.

Scottsdale (home of most of the valley's lagging left turns has been switching many signals from lagging left turns to flashing yellow Rrows which allow leading or lagging lefts.

There are a few of those flashing yellow arrows in Chandler, as well as one in Gilbert at SanTan Village Parkway and Loop 202 West.

In the West Valley (where I mostly am) there is one at 75th Ave and Thunderbird (on 75th Avenue).

Having a leading left turn arrow in one direction, but a lagging left turn arrow in the opposite direction on the same street, can improve two-way signal progression. Fewer stops is a benefit of this.

One caveat: The leading left turn must either have a flashing yellow arrow or not allow permissive turns. Otherwise, yellow trap will happen.

Most cities around the Valley are going the flashing yellow arrow type. I don't know many places with that "yellow" trap around here.

I don't know about "most cities". A few cities are experimenting with them, like Peoria, Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert. Scottsdale is using them more frequently than other valley cities. I'm surprised they aren't used in Tucson more, since it seems the city of Tucson loves to use somewhat unconventional signals. ADOT is using them more at freeway intersections.

Both 75th Ave and Thunderbird have those signals. I don't know why Peoria widened the intersection and didn't just stripe it for dual left turn lanes like they were planning on doing.

I agree, dual left turns would fit there perfectly. Peoria also has a number of "flashing yellow" signals in the Peoria Ave. / 83rd Ave / Grand Ave. / Cotton Crossing area.
