Jutenhoops, Christine and Gary. Lotions, potions, animal squirt guns, bubbles, unicorns, colorful prisms. I believe this is the 3rd Avenue and McDowell location.

I remember Jutenhoops and Christine & Gary!

Although I mainly frequented the Town & Country location.

Arizona Mike, I saw that I had a private message but when I try to open it, it brings me back to the post here. I am wondering if that message was from you.

Me, too.

I always liked the vibe at Town and Country, unlike any of the other malls in town. I remember going to Jutenhoops, and the AMC Theater, and Tangs Imports, and the Food Court...

I loved Jutenhoops! I didn't get there often, but there was one item I loved to buy there. Then I stopped by one fine day and discovered, to my dismay, they were gone. Fortunately I knew the manufacturer of the incense chips I bought there, and was able to get them online.

I remember Tri-City Mall when I first moved here in 1990; it seemed sooo far "out there". Now I live "east of out there" in San Tan Valley.

Anyone remember the Spaghetti Company down by ASU on Mill or Donny Obrien's Chicago stuffed pizza?

Lunt Avenue Marble Club was another hot spot back in the early 80's with their multi-shot drink served in a flower pot.

It's funny how the city fills out past the borders of your mind, isn't it?

In 1979, I got a job as a night watchman guarding APS power stations, transformer stations, and open cables to make sure no one ripped off construction equipment, cables, or fell into a ditch with a live power cable. I spent a few months out in the middle of the desert at a transformer station they were building. You couldn't see anything for miles, and the coyotes would run around outside the storm fencing and yip at night.

When I got back to Phoenix in 1998, I realized that power transformer station is now right up the street from Scottsdale Hospital at 90th Street and Shea, where two of my kids were born, in what is now a very busy urban area.

We used to go up to Cave Creek for a day trip when I was a kid, and we would often stop at the Mag's Ham Bun for lunch at Shea and Scottsdale Road, which was essentially the northern border of Scottsdale - it was all desert past there. Now I live north of that area.

Here's something kind of wild: this is the battle scene from the 1953 scifi classic "The War of the Worlds" - the scenes of the Army shooting mortars, tanks, missiles, etc. at the Martian saucers were filmed using the Arizona National Guard at what is now 32nd Street and Greenway, which was then a remote desert area:
