In your opinion, what is worst thing about living in the Phoenix area? Traffic, crime, heat, what bothers you the most?

Naysayers and complainers on this board and elsewhere. In a high migration city, some will not like their new place and leave after a short while. That's fine, but the real estate downturn has trapped some people in a place they don't like and some deal with it through incessant and exaggerated negativity. Others have left a city in which they were unhappy but are not willing or able to move on; unfortunately, the Internet allows them to bash remotely.

After that, it's not so much the summer heat, which I tolerate reasonably well, but the lack of shade in many public spaces. Many developers put in just a few scrappy palo verdes because that's the cheapest option. I'd like to see Phoenix and its major suburbs implement minimal shade requirements as part of the zoning process.

Not complaining about the heat...and I love the area. I have lived in a desert my entire life. But make no mistake...the Heat is the worst thing about the area.

The crazy laws here and the insane renegades who enforce them. Also the heat in the summertime. Traffic here is a breeze

BTW speaking of laws remember when the state senate actually passed that insane "you can carry your firearm in the bar" law but it got vetoed by the gov? Man Arizona is a wild place

I think Phoenix is OZ - love it here. The triple digit heat is my only complaint. I get annoyed when it stays hot after Labor Day. Come the middle of September, I want it to be over with.

The widespread illegals are the worst thing about Phoenix, but hopefully that's changing. I've seen, and known, illegals in other big cities, but not in the numbers or concentration that I see here.

i like it here but the #1 thing that would lead me to leave is the educational system and limited community / family infrastructure

I hope both change in time as I currently do not have kids so I do not have to make this call yet

The lack of a downtown and the city's failure to really do anything about it. The last 3 years have seen some growth but those areas south of the railroad tracks should be bought and built and there is simply no urgency to do that. I feel that if the city made a serious effort redevelop downtown in a timely fashion, it would attract higher paying white collar jobs.
