Are there any of those neat, suburban, 60's neighborhoods in the Phoenix area? Do they have low crime and reasonable prices? Thanks!

There are many. You will pay a premium for a MCM home. There's a cluster of Havers in south Scottsdale. One just came on the market: https://www.redfin.com/AZ/Scottsdale.../home/27167053

There's another pocket just south of Indian School near 44th St and one just west of Scottsdale Rd., north of Chaparral.

There's also a really cool area in central Phoenix. Brandon Lee from one of the news stations recently had his home featured. I can't remember where it was, but should be easy to find.

You asked the $64K question. "reasonable prices?". That all depends on what you consider reasonable.

If you want to be an urban pioneer there are some pockets of MCM houses that are more than reasonably priced if you want to live west of I-17 in the avenues. Used to live in a pocket of Haver-esque houses near 35th Avenue and Peoria.

Drive up and down 35th Avenue and 43rd Avenue between Glendale and about Thunderbird and you have whole subdivisions built in the late 50's to early 70's that have some MCM qualities at a fraction of the price that the same house in east Phoenix is going for.

I cant believe they're listing that for $410K. Its a shoebox with no pool, small "yard", and horrid doors. The only thing I liked was the bathroom.

This would be worth $410K IMO

A 2,000 square foot shoebox? At $208/foot they're really not even asking a premium for it being a Ralph Haver. I bet it sells for the listing price. For what it is and the area, it's priced pretty well IMO.

For my $410k, I'd much rather have it than the outdated generic house in Ahwatukee that you posted: https://www.redfin.com/AZ/Phoenix/33.../home/28161245

At least the Ahwatukee home has decent materials in it, which is what you're paying for (plus a pool and nice backyard). All you're paying for in a Haver home is his name and the fact that its "trendy" now.

Youre into cars... think of buying a trendy retro home a bit like buying a Aston Martin Cygnet.

Materials-wise, the Haver home is well above the other one with its basic Home Depot-grade finishes, cheap laminate and outdated square tile throughout. The yard and the pool area have potential, but there's a two-story house staring right into its yard. A deal breaker for many, me included. Sorry, I just see nothing desirable at all about that home, maybe other than the price.

I don't really understand how something that's been popular for around 60 years could be considered "trendy". Regardless, looking at other south Scottsdale homes, you're not really paying for it being a MCM at all when it's priced in the low $200s per sq ft. That's simply the going price in the area. The buyer will obviously be someone who appreciates the aesthetics and wants something somewhat unique. I think it's a cool, quirky house and would much rather wake up there.
