What a shame. It was such an awesome place once upon a time.
First of all you know it gets hot here, so that is a good thing. We have crime in some of the areas, but then so does every other state. We have plenty of nice, newer communities to choose from and you can live here safely. I, personally would not want to live close to the airport or some of the southern parts of Peoria and Glendale. North Peoria is a beautiful, newer city as is n. Glendale, north Phoenix and n. Scottsdale. What type of work will you do and how much are you wanting to spend on housing/apartments? This will help you determine where it is you can afford to live. Hope you find your place in AZ. We think it is a wonderful state to flee to.

Well, if you think LA has bad schools, youre gonna be in for a surprise with AZ schools, which are ranked the worst in the USA. If you can find an area that you can afford with good schools, youll probably love it in AZ. Just be verrrrry careful what school you or your children will attend. Same can be said about most places, but AZ does have the worst ranked schools in the nation. How much can you spend on rent or mortgage?

I've been to New Orleans in the summer, and Phoenix in the summer too, and for me, I can tell you that at least as far as the climate goes, I'm much more comfortable in Phoenix than in New Orleans. That combo of high humidity and high temps just makes you want to melt as soon as you're outside. And you can't escape it in the shade either. In Phoenix, it's hot, but it's not so oppressive, at least for me.

I would agree with everyone. like any other state there are bad and good parts here in phoenix. You need to weigh in the PROS & CONS. do a lot of research before moving. I do regret to say that school districts are not too good. I live in Buckeye and they can't keep up with the population growth which causes over population of children in a classroom. the ratio of teacher to students causes issues

Wow, we had a bunch of people relocate here after Katrina. Some stayed and some didn't like it here at all. It was too different for them. Our school system is ranked among the worst in the nation, however, we have many good schools depending on where you live. It is expensive to live here, though. Especially compared to LA. This can be a tough place to relocate to if you don't have something going for you (college degree, personal job connection) rent is fairly high and housing, although down right now, is expensive, too. Having said all of that we have enjoyed living in the desert for the past nine years although my wife hates the summers. Don't be fooled, once the temp surpasses 110 it's hot! Period. It will stay above 100 from May until October and you get used to it or you leave. Good luck in your search. I would visit before moving.
