Hello,

So I've been planning to move to the Phoenix area for a while now and will be moving there this fall. I've visited the area already and will be coming again in August to look for houses. I'm looking at Chandler, Gilbert, and East Mesa. Work will likely be in south Scottsdale and I will be working the off shift to where traffic will not be an issue (I've been tracking the traffic with my maps app for months now). To me a tad longer of a drive is not an issue, it's not going to bother me greatly if I'm 30 minutes from work or anything.

So based off these locations I have listed any advice on where you would recommend and any pros/cons that come to mind off of either? I'm a 30 year old single male, I'm not a party person but fine with people partying. Politics I'd say I'm mostly libertarian I don't really mind being around other viewpoints as long as it's not something that is shoved down my throat and as long as it's a gun friendly area which thankfully it seems like Arizona is most certainly that.

You haven’t really provided any criteria nor a budget. The obvious for a 30 year old single guy working in south Scottsdale would be to live in south Scottsdale.

Going from Gilbert to South Scottsdale might be a bit of a commute. All three of these areas are fairly gun friendly. Chandler is a bit more diverse politically (particularly West Chandler) but is still fairly conservative overall.

Haha yeah a budget would help. So I'm looking basically anywhere from 225k to 250k. I think it would be great to live in Scottsdale, but it's outside of my price point and the houses that are just on the edge of what I could maybe afford are lacking in what I want and look like they definitely need some work.

My suggestion remains South Scottsdale.

While the location is better it seems you get less in a house there for the dollar than you do in the areas I mentioned.

As long as you have a car anything off the 101 is your best bet

So then that becomes the question...what are you looking for in the $225-$250k range. McMansion? Newer build? Tempe may be a bit out of the range...some of the neighborhoods have gone up significantly and 1970s block homes are going for $400k +. South Scottsdale would be hit and miss unless you want a patio home. Gilbert...probably around 1500sq ft 15+ year old home. Some areas of Chandler would be doable...but probably not a new build. Most of the newer neighborhoods are starting in the high 200s to 300s...meaning final price is more likely $325+.

Unfortunately the days of finding a decent sub $300k home in the East Valley are quickly disappearing unless you are okay with an older home.

South Scottsdale made sense before you mentioned needing a house. You could live near work and buy a decent condo or patio home, but that budget may be tough for a SFH in anywhere remotely desirable.
