And what a BAD mistake for me. My wifes kid and grand daughter live here
and she talked me into selling or nice house in Ahwatukee and moving here.
The houses are cheaper BUT the property tax is 3 times what we payed in AZ.
Granted Tx has no state tax and license plate's are cheaper but you have this
crappy yearly inspection sticker that cost 40 bucks a year.
There is nothing to do here except eat out and goto a mall ..thats it.
we are close to 60 and dont care about clubs etc...
Its so humid somedays I cant walk to the mail box and stay inside since May.
Give me 110 and dry heat anyday.
Galveston is a real dump and water looks so bad I would not stick a toe in it.
The traffic is L.A. bad without the nice weather of southern CA.
Even with property values dropping I would stay in AZ if I know what I do know.
The only thing positive is jobs and more jobs....no recession here
and still building like mad. ....100+ oil Im sure helps.
Crime is out of control here too ..everyday 3-4 people are shot in S.W. Houston.
Before you move here I would check it out first and goto the Woodlands
or maybe Kingwood.
Unless you get a high paying job here I would think twice before moving.

You are following in our footsteps. We sold four years ago in Goodyear, moved to Austin, hated it and have just moved back to Maricopa.
We did not like it for the same reasons, high humidity, high property taxes etc etc.

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time. Did you do any research before moving? All the things you mentioned are the reasons why i wouldn't move to TX and I've never been there.

Yes,We came here in Nov...it was almost cold then and low humidity...the problem is
my wife LIKES here she can grow plants etc. and Grand-daughter is here
We may divorce over me wanting to leave and go home (AZ) and she wanting to
stay.
Her youngest daughter is still in Tempe and Im using her to try and get my wife to sell house(if we can ) and go home....she misses her youngest in AZ.

Lol, we are doing the contrary. We are going to move from Houston to Sun City Festival in Buckeye. My daughter leaves in Glendale with her family, so that's the first reason for the move, and the second is that we are tired of the high humidity and the mosquitoes here.

We have been here in Katy 13 months and I have hated every min....
unless you like malls , which I hate, and shopping which unless it for
Big screen TV"S ...BBQ pits , New Truck or lawn mower, or Guns...then yeah
but I already have that stuff.
Eating out is OK here and the Mexican and Cajun is good but im too fat as it is.
I dont have any interest in the Galleria or Willowbrook mall, Memorial City etc.
I even dream about being back home in Phoenix now

I can understand the humidity part, but what did you like to do in the Ahwatukee/Phoenix area that you can't do in Katy/Houston? From what I have heard, Houston has much more culture and variety (not just clubs) than Phx.

Just curious...

Nothing against Phoenix as I like it here, but I really LOVE Houston. People say all the time the grass isn't greener on the other side, but in the case with Houston, it really is greener over there! I went there on a business trip last month and it ended up being one of the most enjoyable weeks of my life, since we had a lot of free time at night. But Phoenix is also a great place to live, so it's hard to go wrong with either one.

Katy is not Houston. It's major suburbia, as evident in your description. Katy --> central Houston = 30 miles. It's like a different world.
