Who cares about the neighbors, why dont the forum people get together for a friendly bbq. When I move there I will invite everyone. Dont need neighbors, making friends is easy just kill people with kindness.lol

so you have family living in AZ also, well that helps alot with moving. I hear that the Wig WAm is beautiful, but then again what isnt beautiful in AZ? The weather is nice their now so you will really enjoy yourself, I too cant wait to go at the end of the month. All us New Yorkers have to get together when we move out there, cant we all buy a house on the same block lol. Its scary hearing on this forum that everyone keeps to themselves out there, how pathetic is that. The good old days was living in Brooklyn, the friendliest city on the planet.miss it. have fun and enjoy talk with you again........

I have lived here for 15 years and I absolutely love the weather. I hate snow and cold and we don't have tornadoes or floods that wipe out the whole city or earthquakes....so I'm staying!!! I would like to say that in reading all these posts about friendly neighborhoods and good schools I have to tell you about my neighborhood. It is actually close to where your Mother - in - Law lives at 7th St. north of Union Hills. Keep in mind that 7th St. is one of the busiest main streets in Phoenix but if you go to the east or west of it you will find not so busy and fairly quiet neighborhoods.
I live in what is known as Moon Valley which is actually a quite large area in North Phoenix. My neighborhood is just south of Greenway Rd. and just west of 7th Ave. off of Coral Gables Dr. The elementary school is Lookout Mountain and it is in the Washington School District. There are a lot of schools in this district that are not considered very good....Lookout Mountain is actually an A+ Excelling school and they have a great gifted student program. When we moved to this neighborhood in October of 2005 we were pleasantly surprised. While we were moving our things into the house several neighbors were out and walking up and down the street, some with their dogs, and every one of them stopped to say hello to us. I hope they didn't think we were too weird looking when our eyes bulged and our our faces looked shocked. Anyway, just to give you all some hope that there really are neighborhoods like this. We also had a block party last fall and we did Christmas Carolling with the Great Dane Club and assorted other dogs and we had continous luminarias for blocks and miles around the area. Also every year we have a community garage sale and we have a part time security patrol that we contribute just $65 a year for. (Our crime rate is comparitively low and violent crimes are extremely low) If you go on vacation and call them they will make a point to check out your house more often. Well I guess you all get the picture. Keep in mind that this is the exception in Phoenix, but it can be found. Good luck to all of you trying to decide whether to move here or not. PM me if you have any more questions.

Aside from the structural issues (which are more media hype than reality), avoid Anthem for the traffic. It is just a mess and gets worse every week. I drive up that way frequently and it is never fun. Don't rationalize it away. It will drive you nuts after a while. There is some hope with a planned freeway widening, but I'd wait until that happens and see what the results are before commiting. There's plenty of nice places in the metro area with better traffic situations.

Well, the way 7th st and Union Hills is is the way most of the valley is - very busy! I don't recommend Anthem unless you don't have to leave Anthem for work. The freeway out of there is a mess all the time.
