Be sure to check out the comments. There are a lot of skeptics on Pittsburgh, and a lot of advocates too.
It's surprising (and at the same time not surprising) that so many people still think Pittsburgh is an industrial wasteland.

The Ignorance about Pittsburgh - Is breathtaking sometimes...I mean we see right here on City Data....

It takes a while for people to catch on, by the time Pittsburgh is totally devoid of its old "wasteland" image....It's transformation will be damn near complete if not fully...

I agree, so many people that have never been here still refer to it as the Smokey City. Seriously, how uninformed could anyone be?

I used to notice a smoky smell in the night air starting around 2002. I lived in Squirrel Hill then. It was especially prevalent on Sunday nights. A friend in the South Hills told me he used to smell what he thought smelled like burning garbage. These were often on the same nights. It went on for years.

Someone suggested it was some aspect of cleaning coke ovens. I never found out. Either I stopped noticing it, or got used to it.

Exactly. Not to knock Pittsburgh, but there is no way that it's prettier than Dublin, Ireland and Monte Carlo, Monaco. The fact that Pittsburgh was ranked ahead of these cities proves that the HP has zero credibility.

The article states it is their list but made no mention of rankings in any particular order.
I guess if they have zero credibility than Monaco, San Francisco,Amsterdam, Seattle are losers ,too and shouldn't be listed. You act like they were way out in left field with their mention of Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh has been noted before, many times globally as a very pretty city.

Once again, those are in no order.

It is tough to compare different cities from different eras from different parts of the world. For a city that is relatively young by European standards, I would again suggest Pittsburgh is remarkably pretty.

I should have used a better word than voted in the thread title...that is my fault.

And I know HP is not a credible news source per say....I just thought it was great to see Pittsburgh in some great company.

Ahh - I didn't know that they were in no order. Then it's a little more credible. Still not sure I'd put Pittsburgh in the top 35 in the WORLD, but as I said, a little more credible.
