God, that poor family. I can't believe how gracious they all are. They don't live that far from me, either.

This is one time that I hope the media creates a firestorm.

Just gross incompetence especially after the fiasco that took place last year. Some people are too dumb to learn from their mistakes I guess. Why we vote them into positions of power is a whole 'nother issue.
I apologize if I misunderstood you.

I dont mean to sound like a total moron here, but was it really that bad out there?? I drove my work shuttle (12 passenger van, RWD) all night long through downtown and the northshore and didnt have any problems, not crossing the bridges 50x nor picking up people at the pens game. Maybe it was more of a cars not equipped to handle it, problem? I do agree that there should have been plows out though, seeing as how weve how very few snow days compared to last year, I think we could have payed out the "holiday pay".

Skuzzie, you were driving on relatively flat roads (North Shore and Downtown) with a heavier vehicle.

You wouldn't have had it so easy on the big hills in a normal car.

The ice was 3 inches thick on the hill where I had to abandon my car.

(It was quite a walk back home to Hampton from Mt. Washington! We were only able to use public transportation part of the way.)

By the afternoon the next day, my tow truck driver found 15 other cars abandoned on the same hillside.

All of them were crashed into. Mine was the only car that was untouched. I was super lucky.

Just curious, you abandoned your car in the City and WALKED to Hampton?

Red or Yellow Belt?

The Red Belt isn't in Hampton. We live between the Green and Yellow belts.

Yep, we walked to the incline, took the subway into town, and caught a bus to Etna.

We walked from Etna to home---over 10 miles. Total walking was close to 15 miles.

I'm just glad it wasn't super cold outside. None of us were dressed for it, but we did fine in that regard.

I contemplated getting a hotel room downtown, but I needed to be home.

The kids thought it was an adventure. They sure have a story to tell their kids one day.

I'm glad they had an opportunity to learn how to take action instead of waiting for someone to save them.

Just curious, which road was it?

Wow, Hopes, you're really a trooper.

And I agree that it wasn't so bad if you were driving around a flat area. The worst part of my commute on Monday was getting off of Banksville Road and up into Beechview, which is the last 5% of my drive home.

Just kidding about the belts, most people are unaware of them.

Pretty impressive walking that far, I would have opted for the downtown hotel room.

Your kids will have something to remember, to be sure.
