It's a safe, working class town with modest, older housing stock and a solid business district. It functions as an older suburb of Pittsburgh, although it is its own town. Not sure about the school district.

It's also might be worth noting that it is on the West Busway, if you have to commute to downtown that can be a big advantage.

Recently applied for an IT manager position with an organization that is located in Carnegie. If hired, I doubt I would live there.

Its a sleepy town whose business district has struggled to rebound since the Hurricane Ivan floods in 04. The school district is solidly average though parents seem to really like the schools. High school taxes.

You'd probably be well advised to watch your p's and q's around Carnegie Towers on Capitol, which are Carnegie's answer to the projects. The sheriff rented a bus one day last year to serve warrants pick up a load of miscreants from that property.

Besides that, I think the town is pretty safe.

If it were me I would look at surrounding little towns such as Bridgeville, Oakdale and such. South Fayette has a wonderful school district as does Bridgeville with Chartiers Valley. Just a short hop to Carnegie.

Like I Like Spam posted the Carnegie Towers off Capitol Drive and the buildings on the surrounding streets are to be avoided, but its the only stechy part of town. Carenegie Towers are low-income highrise apartments that are out of the main stream while their only attractions are housing so there's no reason to go there anyway...
Since the last shooting fatal in '06, and the drug bust in '09 there hasn't been much action... So it ain't like those apartments are too bad.
