Occupy Pittsburgh to host permitted event

Seems this is gaining steam across the nation and even in little Pittsburgh.

"Occupy Pittsburgh! But on the city's terms!" Not that I'm a fan of petulant civil disobedience so I'm glad they've decided in principle against it; just that the idea of obtaining a permit to "occupy" anything is silly.

I wish them the best of luck. Between the corruption of the PPD and the availability of left over riot gear from the G20 I don't think police will be quite as pleasant here as the ones in New York are since the cameras are all over them.

I agree. There's this little doo hicky that this country was founded on:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Then there's the argument of "local ordinances, blah blah blah". Well it just so happens that there's a thingamajig for that too:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding."

I don't think you can compare the two events. This will be tiny and the G20, could be a launching pad for huge protest that can lead to mass distraction costing tax payers millions, which we don't have due to our lovely credit card style of life and promises of pensions for the greedy.

LOL yeah, that does seem a little funny but on the other hand I'm glad to see these groups getting a little more organized. I'd really like to see a list of specific goals. What specific actions do they want taken (something more concrete than "start a conversation" or "pay attention").

Oh look, an entire gathering of people the world is better without...

Edit: As a side note, if you really want to get one of these people going, just mention the fact that they're doing exactly like the Tea Party is, for pretty much the same reasons. Just watch out for all the spittle as they go on a rant.

I understand that, my point is that the PPD will be itching to use their toys on crowds just as they were ready to whip their LRAD this year if the Steelers won the Super Bowl:

Police put experience into play for Super Bowl aftermath

I have no problem with this if the situation calls for force.
