So I might be coming to Pitt for the Miami Hurricane game vs Pitt at Heinz field on Friday Nov 29th. We would be in Pitt on Thursday-Sunday. I know nothing about Pitt or have any preconceived notions other than the best baseball park in MLB and the scenery and architecture of the city is pretty. So what are some things to do in Pitt that would be interesting for a couple of dinks. I am pretty much open to anything, places to eat good sports bars? restaurants with a view of the city? hotels?

Heinz Field is located on the North Shore area of the city. It is in easy walking distance to downtown Pittsburgh. There are a number of hotels on the north shore including the Hyatt Place, Spring Hill Suites, and I believe a Residence Inn. In downtown you have all of your heavy hitters including Marriott, Omni, and Doubletree. The places on the North Shore are going to be less expensive than downtown. There are a number of restaurants and bars right on the North Shore. A newer place called the Beer Market is right across from PNC Park. There is also the Jerome Bettis Grille 36 and a cool place called Rivertowne. If you choose to venture downtown there is a great restaurant called Meat and Potatoes. There is also Redbeards Sports Bar that is pretty cool. The Rivers Casino is very close by. If you are into museums the Andy Warhol is worth a visit. Also the Art Museum on the University of Pittsburgh Campus in the Oakland section of the city is neat. If you would be interested in a city tour Mollys Trolley's of Pittsburgh offers a 2 hour sightseeing tour. It also includes a ride on the Duquesne Incline. That will run on Friday afternoon. I'm not sure exactly what you want to do, but those are just a few things.

Best restaurant view of the city is from Monterrey Bay in the old Christopher's space. Sits on top of a hi rise apartment building on top of a mountain.

The Carnegie International is an option too.

A walk through the Strip District on your Saturday or Sunday morning/afternoon is a must in my mind. A few great museums and art gallery's in the area as well if that's up your alley. Riding one of the inclines and a stop by Primanti's in the strip for lunch seems to be a favorite for many of my out of town friends.

I avoid Primanti's. One of the most overrated restaurant experiences anywhere.

Instead, have lunch at Penn Avenue Fish Company. Great food, and not expensive for lunch. PENN AVENUE FISH COMPANY

As a lifer, I agree that Primanti's is overrated, I personally prefer Peppi's if I'm going to get a hoagie/sandwich, but the out of town friends and family love going there.

I don't agree with that.

Sure, Primanti's isn't the greatest on that street, and if I was in the neighborhood at lunch I'd go to Peppi's or Wholey's first.

But people across the Fruited Plain have seen Primanti's on TV and it is almost iconic. When they get back home, they can talk to their friends about it.

Remember these are tourists, telling them not to see Primanti's is like telling a tourist to DC that the Lincoln Memorial is overrated and native Washingtonians never go there.

I started a thread about that 5 years ago. It's only good after about 5 beers and after 12 AM.

Hard to beat Penn Ave. Their fish sandwiches are superb, and silly cheap for the quality. Same for sushi rolls and soups. As as someone else has already said, the Strip on a Saturday morning must be a quintessential Pittsburgh experience. There's some great food and coffee down there, and people watching

And if you've never had a Primantis, the novelty is worth it, Try - they're popular, so some folks must like them. I can cope with 1 a year, I think.
