Rumor has it that more than a half million was donated to Pitt athletics within 24 hours of Pederson's departure.

Bottom line is that parents have to save for college. If they can't save then the child should be picky about where he or she goes to school and not just go to any school.

Take Penn State (in state) v. Michigan as an out of state student. Unless you have wealth parents or get a great deal from UM why would you go there over Penn State as an in state student?

What did Pederson do wrong? I don't get it. Can't blame Haywood on him. No one say that coming. Graham was a nice hire. Maybe they needed to throw more money at him to see if he would have stayed. Chryst was ok. Coaches leave. Accept it. Even Bill O'Brien left PSU which if you ask any PSU fan is the greatest job in football.

I'm a bystander with no history/ties. But I suggest you go read one of the forums like Panther Lair. Obviously it's a very pro-football crowd there, so expect bias, but they make their points against Pederson pretty clearly. Feel free to disagree with them, but overall, the opinion is that Pederson allowed Pitt football to take a back seat to hoops, disrespected Pitt tradition, none of the football coaches liked the guy, and his only contributions were getting the Pete built (at the cost of football) and lucking into the ACC on a close vote because Clemson, Florida St and BC didn't want UConn - which was all Nordeberg anyway. All sorts of interesting dynamics being discussed.

And every one of them is dreaming if they think Pitt will be significant just because Pederson is gone.

You can't blame Haywood's battery of his partner on Pedersen... but firing a relatively successful Wanny for a guy with an undistinguished coaching record like Haywood was a massive blunder.

Many were happy to see Wannstedt go...and obviously didn't know what they had till he was gone. The next AD will likely go through the same things that Pederson did. Pitt fans expect too much. There's only so much talent that's going to come here unless they are willing to pay up.

Basically, Haywood was hired because Pitt didn't have the funds to get a better candidate. Haywood was a HC for two years and went from 1-11 to 8-4. Big turnaround. Decent hire until he beat his girlfriend.

Wanny was just average. You have to move on from average at some point. Harris was better than Wanny and they fired him too. The Golden Panthers want a better than average program.

Any word on what the budget will be for the next head coach. Franklin makes about 4 million for PSU. Chryst made under 2 million. Big difference. Is there a big time alumni that can stroke a big check? Look what Pegula did for PSU hockey.

I'm not a Pitt person, but didn't he win like nine games and go to a bowl game every year? By definition that's better than average.

'08 and '09 were great. '10 fell off to 7 wins and so did the love. But yeah, as Pitt goes he did very well in his last 3 seasons.
