If $1000 to $1400 is your budget for a 2-3 bedroom, you can easily find that in Mt. Washington - possibly even further up the hill closer to the Virginia/Shiloh area. Also as a heads up at Olympia Park on Virginia Ave there is an off leash dog park. Since you mentioned you have a dog I figured that might of interest to you.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned they have rentals, you could always PM them. Also I see places constantly popping up on Craigslist and Zillow for rentals as well since the wife and I have been searching for a rental in Mt. Washington (for our father-in-law; but we've had less luck since most of the places are 2-4 bedroom and we're looking for a 1-2 bedroom for him).

Either way, I hope you find a place up here! Again, if you have any questions or need any tips - I'm a Mt. Washington homeowner that's been here for 8 years.

price wise yes that should be doable, but finding a detached home and one that allows pets will be the hardest part. When those come available and are priced right, they go very quick.

this one says no pets but you could always contact them and ask if would be an option Mount Mt. Washington, Close to Lookouts! Aug. 1st, Newer Renovation

this one seems ok but the kitchen isnt very big and its a row house type Beautifully Renovated Three Bedroom in Mt. Washington

You guys have been so nice on this board! I can't say thank you enough!

We've also found that having pets have been an issue, because properties we do find and like; go very quickly. It's difficult because we can't make it to Pittsburgh every weekend to look at homes, and if we find one we like, we'll schedule a week out to see it and then it usually goes before we can see it. Ideally we are looking to move in July / august and I know that will be here before we know it !

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend ! I still can't PM people until I hit a certain amount of posts, but if you rent properties or know of someone who might have something we'd be interested in, please let us know... Thanks again !

First you have the grandview ave places. they are in a category by themselves as if you want to live in one you must be willing to shell out a lot of money. There are some reasonable rate apartments on grandview ( 900-1100 1br, 1400-1500 2 br) but they are small and outdated.

then you have the virginia/shiloh district. I think of this as merrimac st to wyoming st east to west, and grandview to virginia north to south. Thats not a perfect description, but anything in that area is pretty safe and close enough to walk to the business district fairly quick. This is the section that a lot of younger professionals have been moving to over the years.

next you have the "back side" which is south of virginia. Like mentioned before, it is hit or miss. You could find a great place on a somewhat quiet street and be really happy with it. But in general, the further back you go the worse is gets.

last you have duquesne heights. Which is west of merrimac. It is where the upscale restaurants and chattam village are. Its a fine area with a lot of long term residents. it is mostly good with some newer townhouse developments here and there. There are still some seedy streets/areas here as well but all in all its pretty nice.

feel free to pm me for any other questions. I am a mt washington resident homeowner and also own some rentals in mt washington.
For some reason I am still unable to PM. Please feel free to message me if you have available rentals, as we are still looking to secure a home. Thank you !

Former Mt Washington resident here. I completely enjoyed my time in the neighborhood. My commute was downtown so I had many choices.

Only suggestion would be to avoid Grandview Ave as it's a congested cruise zone in summer complete with some VERY loud stereo systems. It can drive you bonkers...
