Virtually no one will head Downtown to just see a movie - unless they are somewhere like the lower North Side where a new Downtown theatre really would be closer than any other options.

That said, there are plenty of other groups to consider, including:

1. People who live Downtown.
2. People who are staying in hotels.
3. People getting out of work in the evening.
4. People who are downtown for other reasons already, from dinner to various special events.

As to if this will be enough, I'm not sure. Really any theatre Downtown will have to cultivate an experience which is in some ways analogous to the theatres. Basically convincing customers that what it is buying really isn't seeing a movie so much as having the "authentic theatre experience."

Movies today are all comic book nonsense and sexually active vampires. Who needs it?

We have such a beautiful downtown, architecturally speaking. It's depressing that there isn't more enthusiasm for it on here. Good thing I was actually walking around in the cultural district today and able to see positive things happening, which is helping me walk away from this thread.

There is plenty of enthusiasm about downtown... Just not about a movie theater

Yeah, you live in area because you like it, not because of what other people think about it. Caring about that shouldn't even be a concern.

As usual you couldn't be MORE WRONG! Why don't you stay in Burbs where your opinions seem to base every perspective from.

1. Kings Court was a DUMP that only showed at max 2 movies after they had been in first runs over 3 weeks, it was the same thing that killed Plaza II in Bloomfield.

2. There are plenty of people in the CITY that would utilize a First Run modern multiplex Downtown. Downtown is far more convenient for many City residents than going to crappy Burb theaters.

What's crappy about burb theaters? apart from a handful that are ancient, most are quite nice & state of the art technology wise & is why I'll drive out to one for most films I see unless I'm being particularly lazy.

I think the time is right for a multiplex downtown. There are more people living there with new apartments and condos coming online continuously. The place is jammed on weekends with so much going on, and the restaurant scene is incredible with almost 300 places to eat. More potential audience is moving into the North Side and in Lawrenceville, which already has the quirky Row House Theater.

This would be more for people who like to walk through the streets, do some people-watching, have a nice dinner in a sidewalk cafe around Market Square, go to a gallery, go to a movie, then get a drink afterwards.

If you just want to get a free parking space as close as you can, run into the theater, then run out, get in your car and go home, you wouldn't be coming downtown for a movie, anyway.
