How absolutely weird. Notice the relation between education level and the belief..

More than four out of 10 U.S. citizens expect Jesus Christ to return to Earth during the next 40 years, a poll suggests.

The Washington-based Pew Research Center said its telephone poll of 1,546 adults, conducted April 21-26, found 41 percent of respondents expect Jesus to return by 2050, while 46 percent said it would definitely or probably not happen.

-------

The poll, which had a 3 percent margin of error, found 59 percent of respondents with no college experience believed Jesus is coming, while 35 percent with some college experience and 19 percent of college graduates agreed with the same statement.

I'm a Christian, and I've always been taught that nobody knows when He will return.

Well, apparently four out of ten think he's coming back soon. I bet if they took a poll back in 1960, a hefty percentage would have said he was going to show up by 2000.

I just don't understand these kind of beliefs...there's no logic to them.

And your problem with people thinking that is??? If you dont believe in GOD then what is the issue. Unless you just want to bash Christians.

What is wrong with thinking He will return soon?

Personally I have no clue but I don't see a problem believing it will be soon.

There is knowledge and there is belief. They are rarely the same. A few people learn to think about what they know but many learn to believe. I am pleasantly surprised that so few believed in the Return.

Why?

Same here. I've never tried to put a timeframe on His return. World events would seem to elude to a time in the not so distant future, but people have always found a reason to think the end-times are near because of current events. The only real conclusion that seems to be a direct correlation would be the prophesied destruction of Israel and the subsequent prophecy that Israel would again be rebuilt, which did occur in 1948. Even for those who don't believe in God or the Bible, it should at least give pause that such a monumental event took place just as the Bible said it would. It should at least make the non-believers scratch their head for a moment and say "hmmmmmm, that's very interesting."

Well, as fun and enjoyable as that has been, it seems just a little too easy these days.

If Jesus has any sense, when he comes back he'll dump a bunch of gasoline on the ground, light a match and go somewhere that hasn't been turned into an absolute sh*t-hole by the people his dad did such a terrible job of creating.
