The fillibuster is a simple RULE. It is not in the law nor in the Constitution. It is just a rule that can be waived or even done away with by the votes of 51 Senators. Since this is a budget matter, it could also be by passed using a reconciliation vote. The Democrats do not want to extend the benefits either. They do not like unemployed people anymore than the Republicans like them.
Would just like to give a big to our GOP senate for showing their true colors.
Back when the Senate members were appointed by the State to keep a checks and balances on the states best interests, you didn't see the federal government trample States and individual rights, like we see now, with special interest electing the Senate members and they have no interest in the States they represent.
Looks like the republicans in the Senate have voted against the unemployment benefits for those who are in need. The 57-41 vote needed only three more votes from the republican side to get a total of 60 - to stop a GOP filibuster.
How dare the Republicans want to know where the Democrats are coming up with the money to extend unemployment benefits. How dare those jerks be fiscally conservative. Just print the dang money. Geeesh!
I am going to say how I really feel about this bill. I stand firmly against it, but I have researched the 99ers and other employed people and I will admit it breaks my heart. This a global scheme to put everyone in the poorhouse. I would have supported this bill only if....
Nafta and Gatt were eliminated.
The Federal Reserve was nationalized.
Banks were encouraged to lend again to small business.
Obviously, none of this will happen. In other words, this bill was nothing more than a band aid. The unemployed people cannot deny it. I do not know what the answer is, but constantly extending unemployed benefits when there is no recovery is just a faster end to our country.
The reeps don't care at all about the issue. They don't care about the unemployed, and even worse, they don't care one way or the other. Their only concern is to play partisan politics, and what the governmental issues are is completely irrelevant. They are taking their ball and going home, and now nobody gets to play anything.
When they get home, they will put the ball under their bed, and pull the covers up to their chin and pout.

Thank the good lord, someone has a backbone and is cutting up the credit cards!!!!

So, when are Republicans going to cut off corporate welfare? I'm still waiting for that day.
Why can't Democrats do that?
