I hear gun nuts claiming that the reason Chicago has so many shootings because handguns were banned, even though shotguns were not. They have long claimed that overturning the handgun ban would serve as a deterrent and reduce crimes. Wanna bet that the number of murders will not be reduced next year. This will have no impact on gun violence as most of the people getting shot (gangbangers) in Chicago already had guns.
I heard anti-gun nuts declaring that Florida would become the Gunshine state when they adopted "shall issue" CCW law. They were full of Bravo Sierra as well.
Seems Chicago is far from simply giving in to the ruling.

They're just wasting money...they're going to lose, and the SCOTUS never likes it when their authority is challenged for that matter.
Well, as long as Chicago's clintonesque workarounds and interpretations don't violate the law, there is nothing the Scotus can do about it.
But they do. The only restrictions that may hold up are no guns for felons or the insane, no guns in schools or govt. buildings, and possibly background checks and registration when purchasing. That's it.
From the Heller case:
"Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment, nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."

That wording might allow Chicago to declare all space outside private homes sensitive areas, after all that city (like most cities) has a crime problem.

seems to me that daley is in favor of criminals and not protecting the voters that elected him to office.

Maybe he just doesn't agree with the philosophy that guns solve problems. Actually quite a lot of mayors would like stricter gun laws, there was one joint declaration in that vein, signed by 300 mayors.
