Bragging that conservatives give more money to charity is not very Christian, it's quite prideful. I don't feel the need to tell anyone how much time or money I give to charity, I am liberal in many ways, and I believe deeply in charity for it's own sake not to impress people.

Giving money isn't really associating with people in a "lower position" I believe Jesus actually spent time with people, he didn't give money, he actually spoke to them and helped them with his own hands. Giving money can be a way of bragging about how Christian you are while not actually experiencing, or understanding people who are struggling.
Are you saying that most people lie about how much they donate to charity? And further, are you saying that Christians/conservatives lie about how much they donate to charity? I believe the lying tendency extends to all members of the human race....

No, nobody knows for sure how much a certain group is donating, but the only way to get a somewhat accurate estimation is to base it on tax returns.

Also, seeing as how people who attend church often tithe, which is considered a charitable donation, it is safe to say those who are religious probably donate more to charity than those who are not religious. And b/c my personal opinion is that the OP is correct with his assertion, if this is true, religious conservatives generally donate more than other groups. I'm sure a study has been done on this at some point, and I definitely could be wrong, but logic tells me that conservative Christians probably donate more, assuming they are truly conservative and truly Christian (and arguably, many are not, unfortunately).

I love how everyone loves to say things are not very Christian-like. Christians are still human, last time I checked. Pride is a sin, and bragging of any kind is sinful in nature. But guess what...humans are ALL sinners.

But you don't know if people are actually spending time with the needy people, either. Perhaps they are donating money as well as spending time doing things like serving meals, helping with medical care, providing transportation for appointments, etc. You just don't know and it's presumptuous to say they're not associating with the folks in the "lower position."

Giving money is not a way to brag about being Christian. It's sometimes a way for ALL folks to brag about being generous or having money. Being Christian doesn't have anything to do with the bragging aspect of human nature.

I simply pointed out they COULD lie to show that we really don't know the truth, not that MOST people lie.

Someone had posted specifically that conservatives give more money to charity, and since that was the case liberals were stingy. I found this statement offensive and ridiculous. There was also a post that liberals hate charity, again ridiculous. The reality is no one knows for sure who gives what in terms of time and money to charity, and there is no need to use such statements to insult or make assumptions about liberals OR conservatives.

That is funny and so true. The "quiet" Christians who are tolerant on social issues & low-key in proselytizing. Also their bishops\ clergy are very liberal, anti-military, pro-socialism.

You are either naive or ignorant, one only has to look through the threads on this forum to see the hatred and bigotry towards Christians, coming from the left, which as I said is an amalgamate of those groups mentioned.

Going to a Church does not make you a Christian any more than going to McDonalds makes you a hamburger.......just sayin.

The teachings are about living frugally, to help the poor, to only live with what you need and give your unneeded wealth away. To open your doors to the needy and that greed is evil. Even how Jesus is depicted in looking, long hair, beard, sandals, pretty much exactly like hippies of the 60's.
It just seems to make sense that if you are a true follower of the bible, you would be a hardcore liberal, not a conservative.
I suspect most Christians have not closely examined their affinity for the Republican Party. But they feel comfortable in that party for a simple reason: individualism. Contrary to Obama's representation salvation is not collective. Nobody holds your hand when you stand before the throne of God for the white-throned judgment. You stand or fall on your individual faith in Christ's power to save.

The Republican Party, to the extent it adheres to the principles undergirding the Constitution, also believes in the individual. In turn the Constitution enshrines the God-given dignity of the individual as articulated in the Declaration of Independence. The Bill of Roghts is all about the rights of the individual as against government, i.e., the collective. By contrast the Democrat Party elevates the collective--at the expense of the individual.

Oh right, only Republicans are true Christians! Now where can we vomit? Republicans are the farthest away from true Christianity of any group of Americans. They wave the flag and hold up their Bibles in their sweaty little hands proclaiming God and country just like the Nazi saluted Hitler. Both are dangerous people and in no way Christian.

We are going on the only objective evidence we have. The link provides evidence that conservatives give more in both money and time. And blood.
