What a crock! When the time comes, they'll say: "I was going to quit, but my kids are starting college, I have to save for retirement, there's nothing else I can do to make a living where I'd get paid nearly as much, it's not as bad as I thought it would be,", blah, blah, blah!
I work with five doctors. I have never heard any one of them say that.
The sky is not falling.
Do you really think that the PA who told me that she was going to retire in three years was lying to me? I questioned her about her motives and she said a combination of her age, the amount she has invested, and what she sees coming all weigh in on her decision. Of course, her comment about the meltdown of the financial scene leaves her lots of room to go along with you.
A survey of 100,000 doctors by the Physicians Foundation finds that 40% say they will stop practicing altogether within three years when Obamacare is fully implemented. I guess that's how Obamacare will bend downward the cost curve: by making sure fewer people get medical treatment because they can't find a doctor to treat them. And Michael Moore will get his wish. Our health care will be just like Cuba's: two-tiered. The wealthy and the politically-connected will continue to enjoy quality care. The rest of us will be treated to third-world medical care.
Casper, I attended an appointment with my hear people the other day and the regular doctor didn't show up because he had a couple of stents put in his heart arteries last week and a PA with 27 years working for the group came, instead. She told me that she can retire in 3 years and surely will if the market doesn't do another melt down. She indicated that just what JimMe says is her main reason for wanting to retire. She just doesn't want to fight the crap.
Pretty poor bedside manner for that PA to instill fear in her patients that everyone in the medical field is going to leave the profession because of HCR. Beyond that though, Happy New Year to you, Roy and I hope you have health and prosperity in 2011.
not much good in nationalizing something if doctors are leaving and austerity measures force the government to contract pay. They'll leave the practice anyway.
Have you ever talked to a wall or a fence post. You are wasting your time here but some of us don't want to see nationalized health care and can see it coming. Of course, doctors are so greedy that they surely won't stop practicing just because they can't determine what they can charge, say all the libs.
Hey, bob, can you tell me who will be determining what amounts doctors can charge by three years from now when private insurance companies have been driven from the field? I wonder how much federal control there will be in three years when Obamacare goes into effect with little funding coming from the Congress.
What on earth makes you think the Ins Cos are being driven out of the market? In fact, the exact opposite is happening. The US HC System will become even more dependent on private Ins.

Did I indicate that that woman spoke about anybody but herelf? I surely didn't intend to do that. However, she is not the only one from that group that has told me the same thing about Health Insurance Reform. I do wish people could start referring to that law to what it really is.

bob, I have to look at what happens tomorrow when all the people with employer paid (whatever portion they pay) start paying income taxes on all the insurance they provide. People are going to stand up and howl when they realize that one of Nasty Nancy's, we will have to pass it to find out what is in it, comes out. Remember the promise that you wouldn't have to pay higher income taxes if you make less than $250,000? Maybe Obama didn't know what was in that bill either but it will make him one huge liar in the eyes of people who lose that important benefit and get that raise.

I think some will leave their field but not 40%. What would they do for a living?

I guess things are different in Kansas than Arizona. I've tried to feel out my Drs. Which include my PCP, cardiologist, VA, Testing labs, just to see how the Drs. are concerning HCR and they are all pretty vague and non committal. I guess different standards apply for different regions of the country.
