A number of people I know are unemployed and all they can talk about is the debate in Congress about FEDERALLY FUNDED EXTENDED Unemployment Coverage. These friends and relatives who are long term unemployed are nearing the end of their extended coverage and are still no closer to a job. In fact many believe that it is unlikely they will find anything in the next year or two until the recession finally ends. So they believe they should be eligible to collect unemployment benefits until the jobless rate goes back to normal.
What do you think? Should Congress find the money to somehow pay for extending the unemployment benefits for the LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED beyond the 99 week limit? Answer my poll and discuss. (I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT REGULAR STATE UNEMPLOYED BENEFITS FOR THE NEWLY UNEMPLOYED)
There is precedent for this. In the past fifty years, these benefits have always been extended when unemployment is this high. It is nothing new. What is new is people using this issue to play politics, and I don't like it. This should be done as it always has been in the past, not used to try to score points in the election.
Only after they deport the Illegal Aliens that take jobs away, not all of them are in the fields, there is no way that we have a need for 20 million+ crop pickers. Star with the expired 401b visa holders(high paying tech jobs). And Illegals employed at fastfood restaurants, carwashes( entry level jobs for teens and other down and out AMERICANS) and especially in the hard hit area of Construction.
We are becoming The Netherlands. lol. Where more people will soon be on unemployment than work. Our country cannot support this and we will soon be so in debt that we have no power but are in debted to China and are basically owned. Obviously a lot of people are deceived and do not understand this.
Let charity begin at home, not in our government. So many people do not understand the purpose of our government. it is not to provided money to those who don't work. People need to educate themselves. The results so far in this poll just show how many people do not understand how gov't and entitlements work.

I am all for unemployment extensions for those who are having a hard time. However 99 weeks? That is nearly two years. I cannot fathom how you can make it much longer. At that point people are nearly unemployable.

You are mistaken if you think we can step back and have a "less is more" attitude" towards government. I'll admit that there is too much corruption on both sides, but clearly corporations have consolidated our society much further than we ever imagined. The only thing that will get this country back on track is if we strip corporate money out of DC,reduce military funding, and bring back manufacturing. If this fails the only thing left is higher taxes (like every civilized country in the world) and more socialistic policies. We need to stop the people that want to further consolidate our middle class. Capitalism has expired(.)
The sad truth is this; most people do not start looking for a job, or more pointedly will no accept a job until the benefits run out regardless of how long they receive them. If it is 6 months or 2 years. Because most will be settling in their mind and would rather take a hand out at $250.00 a week than work for $400 a week.
A sad commentary on a lot of people's work ethic but so true. And I have seen it time and time again. I knew a gal who worked in a call center and make 15 an hour. She got layed off and was offered $10 an hour at another call center. She said, I am worth a lot more than that. Same job type it is just that she was making $15 an hour because she had been there for years. No eduation needed but she would not take the job.
People have skewed views of their "worth" in most cases.

Oh, capitalism has expired and "the only thing left is higher taxes like every civilized country."
So a mark of a civilized country is higher taxes? Just goes to show how skewed your thinking has become and how you have bought into the left wing media hook line and sinker. I am really sad that you think higher taxes and bigger gov't is the only way to solve our countries problems. It hasn't worked in Europe I would think you could see that.
If you think higher taxes is the only way, to tax our way out of our problems you are deceived. Clearly.
