Well that IS a ringing endorsement for democracy and freedom, calling on a dictator propped up with US tax dollars to support reforms....
Did the US gov. cut off funds?
The fact is, there is the ideal and there is the reality (realpolitik). The truth is the US MUST deal with dictators all the time since THEY are the heads of state of these places - and often one is better than another. If we turned our back and had no dealings with every country that wasn't truly democratic we'd have dealings with a whole lot less countries - many of which have materials vital to our national interests (this was particularly true in the past when democracy was pretty much unknown outside of Europe, the US & a few other countries). The key is not to be too wedded to these folks. Yeah we have to have dealings with them but no we don't have to be joined at the hip - and when the time comes that the people of those nations find the will to stand up to the dictator then we SHOULD (as we did in this case) make clear that we'd like to the see the people have their way.

NOTHING wrong with that.
Ken
There is everything wrong with it....and THAT is why the USA is not trusted.
To espouse freedom and democracy requires you support freedom and democracy.
The USA does not do that.
Hence the reason the USA is in it's current position.
Way too early to know what is goign to happen. CBS said they do not know any leader now and it loks like the military assumes power but not clear. It really depends on wht the military thinks I guess and they seem to have the power in thsi instance.Who kows its not like any leadership emerged like in Poland.

I understand what you are saying, but I really do think that you need a broader perspective. Not that I am any kind of expert, but I have my opinions and I agree with LB.
Exactly. The radical Muslims will step in now and co-opt the entire process to serve their own needs.
Aside from a broad fear, you really have no evidence in support of this statement. It would be like assuming that every election we have the radical Christians will co-opt the entire process. They try every time, but have yet to bring our nation to their will. Trust the Egyptians.
That was the opinion instruction to the Beckerheads today.
