How did these teachers all get this time off simultaniously? Was it approved vacation time? If not, did they call in sick? If so, they are guilty of fraud and should be fired. Abuse of sick time is a fireable offense in any private company, why whould our privileged class of government workers be any different?

"sick out". The garbage men in NYC were accused of these when the snow piled up.
Not organized or condoned by the unions..or so they say.
Grassroots movement..or so they say.
Just takes a series of phone calls..nothing in writing.
Wonder just WHO started those phone calls ?
If I was governor I would fire all of the teachers that were not back at work by Monday (2/21/2011), which would be like the fourth or fifth day of being "sick" from work. In preparation for the mass firings I would set up a website where all other out of work professionals could apply for teaching positions, temporary or permanent. I am sure there are lots of professionals out of work in Wisconsin that have degrees in Math, the sciences, History, English and other fields that would make excellent teachers.
Public employee unions are bankrupting the states and all these greedy leeches want is more, more more. Even if these new cuts go in to effect the union people will only be paying 12.6% of the cost of their health care. Most Americans pay between 25-50%. I pay 50% and if I wanted to add my wife to the policy I would pay 100% for her. These unions don't pay anything for their pensions either. Instead of raising that to the 5% the governor wants to, I would simply eliminate them. The union people can't complain because they haven't been contributing anything to them anyway. It's not their money. No one has pensions anymore. This is not the 1950's. Grow up and take responsibility for your own retirement like everyone else does in the real world. Teachers are already among the highest paid group of people if you take salary and divide by number of hours worked. I am tired of these leeches sucking taxpayers dry. Also, what do we get for all of that money we throw at them? Are our students the best performing in the world in Math? In Science? Hell no. We aren't even in the top 20. In fact, as we have thrown more and more money to the teachers our schools' performance has gone down and down. It is time to take a hard look at the money we are spending, what we are getting for it, and how the system can be improved. If it can not be improved then perhaps it should be scrapped.

First of all, have you heard about the recession? Jobs are hard to come by. It wasn't that way when the person I'm talking about started working there.
Secondly, is that what you're going to ask at a job interview? How do you handle sick policy?
RWs with their rosy ideas about benevolent employers crack me up.
Then these disgruntled teachers should be grateful for what they have. Plenty of teachers from all the US would be happy to take one of the Wisconsin jobs, concessions and all.
