The better question is why would I care to learn about Islam?
If I see some guy in a turbon praying on his knees bare feet atop a card board box in the middle of the day, we probably don't have much to say to each other anyways, so my knowledge of Islam or Muslim is irrelevant.
If some guy I work with is from the Middle East, I really don't care to hear what he says about Islam, just as I wouldn't care to hear any white people talk about Christianity, Judaism, etc.
You might be mocking that person, but that kind of ignorance and idiocracy really exists. This nation used to be a nation of smart, educated people. That image shows the worst of us... something that really shouldn't even exist.

I disagree. American extremists are a very small lot when compared to muslim extremists. Who was the last American extremist that damaged humanity? Tim McVeigh? That was back in the 90's. How many conflicts do we have around the world that are related to muslims? Israel/Palestine; Iran/Israel; Russia's internal conflicts; US/911; US/Boston Massacre; US/Time square bomb; England/airport terror bombings...
