I know that practice was quit common in ancient rome and the middle ages amongst the nobility, but to be honest, I have never known anyone to do that. Then again, I don't hang out with Roman emperors.

Parents of tipsy toddler sue over drink mixup | Chicago Breaking Business (http://chicagobreakingbusiness.com/2011/04/parents-of-tipsy-toddler-sue-over-drink-mixup.html - broken link)
Good poll. I heard the mom of the child in Lakeland, Florida, on the radio when the news break. IMO it was ridiculous. Okay a mistake was made but how can you not see as a parent what Orange Juice looks like compared to Sangria...second; The mom stated to MJ the radioshow host "what will it do to my son in years from now"....I was like OMG this lady really thinks she can cash in. I have been drunk one time in my entire life and felt so sick the next day that I never want to experience this anymore. I was 18 and stupid...(it was legal since in Europe there was no drinking age)...I'm no in my fourties, healthy, hardly ever drink and I don't think the kid will have his liver damaged due to this....

If the restaurant had put cocaine in his food, that would be something else. In many Countries around the mediterranean sea, kids drink a glass of wine at dinner and many people live to be 80 or older.

I hope this family doesn't get a dime...IMO they should get some free dinners and that is it. JMO!

What ever you need to tell yourself.

Maybe it was a colored or opaque cup.

If a stranger gives my kid something to drink, I think I may want to inspect it first. If I don't, I'm to blame for the result, if not totally, definitely partially.

I can honestly say that I have never tested one of my kids drinks at a restaurant when out to dinner. My bad, I guess.....

A mixed drink is not POISON. Even to a one year old.
As a responsible father I would have noticed this, called the owner to my table and demanded a comp meal with unlinited drinks!
If the child drank more than a sip it's the PARENTS fault.

I wonder if I could still do it, it's only been 23 years or so LOL

My former boss (an attorney) said that when he was little, his father gave him a drink of Scotch when he was hyper and wouldn't go to sleep. (Explains a lot).
