You might want to look the meaning of "sane" becuase your definition does not seem to match the view point of the majority of Americans.

Were you even paying attention when Nancy (jump, dive, swim, crawl, parachute to pass health care so that people can find out what's in the bill) Pelosi was in power?

You've got to be completely delusional to think Reid and Pelosi are open to compromise.

Wow. The OP is delusional. I am impressed that for once the debt ceiling was truly used by a party to force big changes in government spending. Not exactly happy with the process, nor the exact result. But the GOP created political theater of the highest quality.

Well that is certainly not true. The right got a down payment on the debt without raising taxes. It is a historic change in the way we look at the debt.

Well this of course is silliness. The Dems are so addicted to spending that the threat of their self described armageddon only got them to accept modest cuts. And had to be dragged out to the last minute. If you think this is the same old, same old you have not been following the process.

The GOP has shown that they don't care that the economy suffers an economic disaster if it means that the rich get richer and a Democrat is given the mess when their time is up. It's no surprise then that the GOP was willing to let the economic disaster happen here unless they got many of their demands met. Maybe results of the default-avoiding plan didn't please Dems, but we have to admit: it exposed Republicans as "still more Bush."

Bush Pubs want to cut spending and impose no new taxes, especially for the rich. This strategy certainly didn't help the country under Bush and you can bet it doesn't help the country now. Somehow, this is supposed to help them win back the White House? What they did was shoot themselves in the foot and hopefully arouse the attention of Democrats who abandoned President Obama for the Midterms. It's quite clear that as long as Republicans have a say, the economic condition of this country will be in dire straights. Theirs is a bigoted ideology obsessed with "welfare cheats" and "illegal immigrant moochers." They seek to protect the rich, maximize profits for the rich, deregulate to discriminate and practice racism without scrutiny, cut corners to maximize profits, favor policies that encourage corporate america to displace qualified american workers with foreign labor, and implement policies which tell everyone else to go to hell. The GOP has again been exposed. The greater evil of a default averted.

Compromise favors the Dems here. Pubs have been wrong since 2000 and continue to be so.

Tremendous edge to President Obama.
Really, still Bush's fault???

Congrats to President Obama and VP Biden for being the adults in the room while the "children" squabled.

Obama has been poor. He wanted so much more - $4tn in savings, closing corporate loopholes etc but he isn't strong enough to get this done.. and this was the very reason so many voted for him in the first place. He is too quick to compromise and pass weak bills (healthcare is another example) rather than standing strong and leading.

His weakness means that the debt ceiling will be raised (which would have happened anyway) but with a weak bill which doesn't address the main problems one bit.

The only way Obama will remain President in 2012 is if the republicans choose a candidate that is from the loony fringe. If somebody with centrist ideals actually ran they could steamroll him.

I also wish Obama had stood strong on a UHC and tax reform etc but, like many, he felt when he entered office that as President he could make big changes.... unfortunately the system here does not allow that as many before him have discovered and so will many after Obama. Look at what happened with raising the debt ceiling. America is only one of Two countries that have debt ceiling restrictions and have to go through this "charade" to get things done.
