They realized that people who are desperate to keep their jobs will work 70,80,90 hours per week for the same rate of pay they've been earning for the past five years and so will do the work of 2,3,4 people so there is no need to hire anyone new.
Win-win.

They'll get their comeuppance when there is not enough middle class left in the world to buy or consume their products.

I saw an article today that said that many are finding WalMart and the Dollar Stores too expensive now for everyday goods. We are reaching the tipping point very quickly.

The similarities between Bush policies and Obama policies makes that clear. Still, I agree with you, most people can't see past the "D" or "R" to discover that they are all the same, so yes perception will affect business actions.

It's obvious why: because they don't see the demand for their products to support such an investment. If you're a CEO, are you going to sign up for a large multi-million/billion dollar expansion in blind hope that this current economic environment will reward you for it?

And yes, it may further harm their businesses - or at least keep them growing very slowly. Companies don't offer jobs because people aren't buying; people aren't buying because companies aren't offering jobs. This can and will continue for a long time.

The usual partisan heads around here will try to blame it all on their usual political pet peeves, and some will be partially right. But really what businesses are waiting for is for their consumers to get back on their feet.

All that really matters is that the corps keep funneling money into the politicians coffers. It is everyone's (D and R) best interest to ensure that they have enough 'free' money available to keep those pockets full.
How else to explain this?

Obamacare is the BIG problem and a general anti-business climate.

Many "R"'s have said they will overturn Obamacare if elected.

They don't see the demand because the demand will only be there if they give people jobs.

They are sitting on the means to get the economy going- we still have a capitalist system. The government has tried but can not jump start the economy alone.
