I find it amusing that some people including the OP are so concerned about what our kids are reading. The more vexing and realistic concern is the fact that our kids are NOT reading anything. With the advent of XBox, DVD's, and texting, it is a big concern that they are not reading anything at all. Cliffnotes can now be had with an Iphone App.
Stop worrying about the so called gay agenda and focus more on a literacy agenda. I would be happy at this point if children read anything. Why read a book about sexual promiscuity when there are much more base vehicles available for consumption such as internet porn etc.

I went to middle school with a guy who skipped 2 grades - he was 8. These homos want to teach our 8 year olds to have sex with them. This homothreat is out of control.
Actually, the article states that the reading list was also for middle school, which can start in 5th grade; i.e., ten year olds. Let's read the link, eh?

When you actually read one of the books that you are hammering, then I will actually listen to you. If you want, I will have my child read one of these books and explain it to you.

You seem very keen on ignoring the reasons we are defending it. As for my kid, I would not object. I would also read the book along with her and explain the parts I thought needed explaining.

You can just home school your kids (if any) and keep them ignorant and unappreciative of literature if you like. Why do you think it's necessary to go around pissing in everyone else's cornflakes?

Your "quote" is from a blog where a guy recounts a radio interview with a member of an anti-gay hate group. A don't call that a "confirmation." I call that suspect hearsay (double hearsay really).

I'd like to point out, as well, the value of critical reading skills. Some people just read something, read all sorts of things into it, and fly off the handle. But people who apply critical reading skills ASK pertinent questions, they want the story to be fleshed out, they want the whole story. When they have a more complete understanding of the situation, they can then choose to fly off the handle, or not.
