If she can't be understood in English she has no business teaching it. A teaching job is not a civil right. TOEFL (Test of English as Second Language) contains a speaking section. Testing a student's spoken language fluency is hardly irrational or unfair.
The issue is not speaking English, but her accent. Anyone with a 6th grade understanding of English would understand that.
If you can't understand English, you shouldn't accuse others of not understanding English.
From the article..."leeves here"
Is that "leaves here" or "lives here" ? Read the article to find out.
Also from the article..the accents must have been very heavy.
Also remember these are elementary school kids being taught. Learning vocabulary and phonics are part of elementary school.
"Mr. Krieger, who has taught actors, business executives and others from around the world to speak American English, said some of the teachers had what he considered heavy accents.
“I don’t think there was one who didn’t need the help,” he said. “If 10 is really bad, some were 7 or 8, and some were probably 10s.”
My 9th grade granddaughter alsmost failed Spanish because she couldn't understand the assignments, the teachers accent was so heavy. Some of the kids had to repeat her instructions back to the class.
uh huh. We should probably deport her then until she learns to speak English the PROPER WAY! It's hilarious I see these people posting in the illegal immigration section deflecting accusations of racism with the excuse that they aren't racist because they HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Page bookmarked for reference.
The funniest part is that she probably has a better grasp of the English language than a good portion of the posters here.
