How do you "help" someone get in without lowering standards?

This is indicative of the conversation your group has when people of color are not present.
Why you just grow a pair and say what you really feel?

So true.

Not sure what you're referring to. Could you provide an example?

Btw, most schools only require a 2.0 to stay at the school. That's hardly "hard work."
Merit.

That's nice to say living the the land of milk and honey. But if you're a kid who had the misfortune of being born to a young mother and are smart, but can't do the tutoring, the enrichment, I have no problem with SES being used as a factor in admissions.

By raising performance through tutoring and mentoring.

Fine by me, but the disadvantaged white kid should get the same help anyone else would.

It is nice to say but only b/c it's nice to actually abide by.

I don't really care who was born to whom and what color they are, if you don't have the personal inner drive to do well in school and make the grades that allow you to get into the college of your choice, you don't deserve to be there. You cannot get through college without being a self-starter, that's a fact.

By relaxing the entry requirements, but not the standards at the college itself once they are in.

What a racist comment. Way to paint with a broad brush.

This is exactly what I argue on these boards every time there is a race thread. Many people here feel that blacks and other minorities need to be treated in special ways to make the playing field supposedly more equal. That only makes it less equal for whites. I say just let what will naturally happen happen and stop trying to mess with admissions and acceptance to jobs, etc.

The entry requirements are specifically calculated to weed people out who can't make it in the college. If they're too high, lower them for all races.
