Joe, I think the Iranian people are, and have been, ready to westernize. They don't control the government so even rioting won't work, at least as long as the US has President who won't help them when they do try.
When Iran Westernizes, it will be bloody. Maybe it's time for the young Iranians to pull off the bandaid.

How can they just westernize when they're run by a fundamentalist dictatorship? They have no say in the matter, many Iranians, especially well educated ones, would prefer that but theres not much they can do other than have a revolution. Its very sad because there are so many well educated people who have to live under this horrible system. Iran used to be the light of the Middle East until the dirtbag Ayatollah got in.
Iran should become a Liberal Democracy. (Liberal used in its original intent.)
Let them work on it at their own pace.
