It is not that Christians oppose gay marriage, its more, that it is the only excuse people can use, regardless of their religion to rationalize and justify against it. If Christians were trully devout, they would not use birth control, and oppose divorce laws. The bible is full of archaic myths, but notice how selective people are at choosing which ones they want to apply. Jimmy Carter once said, "if you are straight, same sex relations are the easiest thing to be against.
I am just giving you some verses which define sexual immorality, and explain that sex in a man-woman marriage is the only acceptable form of sex (according to the Bible). Everything else, including unmarried heteros sleeping with their partners, is sexually immoral, then how could gay sex not be sinful?
So help me understand why, if you are someone who....
Committed incest.
Had sex while the woman was menstruating.
Committed adultery.
Committed bestiality.
Had sex with both a woman and her daughter.
Had sex with your brother's wife.
Had sex with your daughter-in-law.
You can get married, but gay marriage is 'sexual sin' and should be forbidden.... In your own example above, "unmarried heteros" commit the same level of sexual sin that homosexuals do, yet Christians do not advocate forbidding them to marry. Why is that?
This is not to mention the Bible's very clear strictures against divorce, with which Christians don't seem to concern themselves in any but the most superficial ways possible.

Because it's the inspiration for silly, irrational thinking? Because if you were being logical, you would just as much force people out of marriage for committing sexual sin as prevent people from entering marriage based on sexual sin. And you'd at least be consistent in forbidding all sexual sinners from marrying, not just the "chosen" of the day....
Anatomy teaches us it is suppose to be a man and a woman. If it is a man and a man it is called Sodomy. It is a sin.
The Homosexual has this in his blood as I or anyone else has Adultery, Pride, Anger, etc.. It is no different.
When a society has decided to condone Homosexuality, it has decided to REBEL against the Creator. Throughout history, this has not worked out well for nations.

I know that there are a couple of loose lines in the bible that refer to men laying with men but why does that translate into gays not marrying?
Those lines actually refer to the act of anal sex IMO. It's not necessarily because of the act itself, but because of potential risks and potential for injury involved. The Old Testament has some examples of God commanding the Jews to do certain things, which, if you think about them, make a lot of sense. For example, shellfish. There is nothing evil about shellfish, but their job is to clean the water and be bottom feeders. They aren't very good for you if you really think about it and their "job" on earth. It's actually good advice given how primative medicine and cooking methods were. Get sick from one clam and you're dunzo. Circumcision is another example, can you imagine the infection if you couldn't regularly clean under there? It was God's way of protecting his chosen people.
Jesus, however, did say something about civil gay marriage IMO, "Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." Mark 12:17

Incest etc are sexual sins, and would probably land you in prison. I just explained how the Bible defines marriage, so why do you ask?
