it's pretty much over with, why whine about it now? Have you been calling your lawmakers to overturn these bans? Campaigning house to house? People don't care anymore, it's pretty much a done deal and there's zero momentum back in the other direction, I don't recall a smoking ban being reversed in the past decade
Then your city is the problem. Move here to Las Vegas and you can open your smoking bar for smokers only as soon as you want.
you can smoke in most of the bars here in detroit even if they're fully closed bars. I'm not sure if it's legal or not by michigan law but here in the d, we're a little bit more relaxed about such things

Smoking is illegal in public establishments in Michigan (except Casino).
Of course, the people in the State of Michigan haven't been too keen on actually following laws these days.
You almost have to wonder what's the point in having laws in this state if most people won't abide by them.

...and the fact of the matter is if you walk into an establishment that allows smoking that is your responsibility. I know you're willing to prostitute that liberty for something you want, frankly you don't deserve it to begin with.
I'm not prostituting anyone's liberty.
Businesses have an obligation to make sure their establishment are up to the required health standards if they choose to open it to the public, for their protection (so the patron won't sue them) and the patron's.

I raised four sons by myself - in a cloud of smoke - Yeah I'm fit to be shot! They have never been sick one day in their lives and they are all approaching 30.
Some people can't eat peanuts - they will die!
I'm 64 & I still smoke two packs a day. My mother has been harping on me since I've been a teen - quit drinking soda pop! Its not good for you. I keep asking her; at what age are these "signs going to appear ???
My father didn't smoke - he died young @ age 57!

My sister didn't smoke either - she died @ age 51
My cousin didn't smoke either - he died @ age 51
Most of my family members and relatives didn't smoke and they all died young in their early 50's
I'm the "black" sheep of the family (chuckle) I outlived them all!
Cept for momma whose 84 and still going strong - driving and very active.
My step mother is in her 90's - she still smokes and is strong as an ox!
Your argument is filled with way too many straw mans, there's no point in even responding to any of them.
However, what I will say is smoking has been proven to be the leading cause of a deadly disease, those other things have not (and those poeple could have died for any reason), and even if they were, they don't cause second-hand health problems unlike smoking.

There are ongoing efforts in Michigan and in the United Kingdom to reverse the smoking bans there.
here in the us vi the cigarette ban has killed a lot of business. you cant even smoke in a bar that has no walls or roof, its funny to see all the people congregating twenty feet from the establishment all puffin away
