I think you've got it backwards. Religious conservatives have been casting gays as boogeymen for centuries.

It was never about protecting marriage. I know plenty of christians and plenty of Republicans who support gay marriage. On the other hand, every single person who I have ever met (christian, Republican, Dem) who was against gay marriage also clearly had a serious problem with gay people in general, either that or they didn't know any. Make no mistake, the anti-gay marriage movement is based purely on gay hatred and discrimination. I know one person will respond to this with the "I'm against gay marriage and I have gay friends" line. I find that line suspect because I've never actually met a person who takes that stand outside of an internet chatroom or forum.

Why do words like "hatred" always have to be used by the left? Can't anyone oppose something without being a hater? Most who oppose gay marriage also have a problem with the gay lifestyle based on their moral and religous beliefs. They go hand in hand.

We don't accuse people who disagree with us of being hateful. We accuse people who mistreat others based on their sexuality (or race, or religion, etc) of hate.

As I said though, I don't view this as civil right's issue.
You are wrong. Most of the FFs were not Christians.

Not so much here.

Tell me what has happened in suburban Denver.
Its moved rather hard towards the left. The core suburban counties were very Republican not that long ago, considerably more so than the national average. Now, well... Lets look to see how Jefferson & Araphoe have moved compared to the national numbers.

Jefferson
1996 GOP +14.21
2000 GOP +8.75
2004 GOP +3.69
2008 Dem +1.72

Araphoe
1996 GOP +17.39
2000 GOP +8.49
2004 GOP +1.50
2008 Dem +5.64

No clue why the GOP is full retard in that state. They shold mimick libertarians in Colorado but the act like they're in Alabama. That's why their governor nominee lost in such horrendous fashion.

Sounds great!

If everyone is happy, why do you want to change the legal definition of marriage?
