Maybe they don't have the sense to get a job, so really don't need an ID that much? Some of them are not able to work. Where you like this 65 year old black women in a wheel chair to work?
Perhaps you want the voter roll cut off for people that don't have the sense to work?
No. I want to stop voter fraud. I want to cut off people who shouldn't be voting, because they aren't eligible, from voting. I don't care whether it's because they aren't who they say they are, they have already voted under another name, or they are illegal immigrants.
Again, the hospital won't treat you without an ID unless you are in danger of dying or losing a limb. If they can't work then they are most likely on SSI, which means either they are getting a check or having it transferred to an account. Both of those things require ID. Like I said earlier, the better answer is to help these people get IDs. It wouldn't just help them vote, it would help them function easier.
why wouldn't it also decrease republican votes? Are you saying only poor democrats can't figure out how to do things? They must be stupid? That is kind of harsh.
If you have no fixed address and only own what you can cart around with you, it's pretty much impossible to get an ID in some states (such as New Jersey).
People are trying to find an issue here where none exists. It's an interesting dichotomy of narcissism and victimization. This has nothing to do with disenfranchising the poor or minority votes, and it won't. It's about voter fraud and it's the best and only way to prevent it. No one is gunning for the poor here. If you can stand in line to get a free cell phone then you can stand it line to get an ID.
Essentially nothing in that comment is true. There is no genuine voter fraud problem in this country, so if that is your story then Voter ID is a solution desperately in search of a problem to solve.
The only reason these laws are being pushed is Republicans are fully and explicitly aware that they would deny the right to vote to a significant number of people who are their political opposition. It is a poll tax, pure and simple.
Most people in retirement and nursing homes usually don't have a state id or a drivers license, and for lots of them it would be a nightmare getting them to the DMV. Lots of retirees past driving age don't have id either.
If it did, Republicans would not be promoting this particular farce.
So not being able to get ID is a farce. Then we have no problem here folks so why doesn't everyone have an ID then they go to vote? Maybe they want to vote more than once or vote for someone who has died or-------fill in other frauds you can think of, there can be many of them.

When my mother went into a nursing home we had to provide ID.

But there isn't any significant voter fraud. I posted the the findings of two Federal trials where the Judges mentioned this fact in their ruling. The right wing side could not produce the evidence.
If you want to make it easier to get an ID more power to you. But if the net effect of making it easier to get an ID, and increasing voter ID requirements is to disenfranchise Dem voters it should not be allowed.
