Really? You Cant think of a reason. How about to better yourself, learn something and get a promotion and make more money. Or maybe just to get your fat a s s off the couch and feel like you earned a paycheck. Or maybe so somebody who may really need that wellfare money can get it. How about asking yourself, Why would anybody accept welfare when they could earn their own way?

You make a fine case for eliminating welfare.

Eliminate welfare/food stamps/ unemployment, out of control corporate taxes, over regulation of business, minimum wage and then we will have a true free market economy.

One solution would be a time limit. You get x number of months of welfare. Then it ends.

I have no problem helping people out when they are down and need a hand.
I have a REALLY BIG problem with it becoming a multigenerational lifestyle.

X number of months welfare doesn't help anyone and hurts tax payers and the economy. It just gives them an excuse to not do jack sh1t for x amount of months until their benefits end. Eliminate welfare completely.

For traditional welfare, this already exists. Clinton reformed welfare in the 90s to do this. Welfare is actually not that easy to get anymore. Food stamps on the other hand are given out like candy.

This may differ in different states, but the site I found for New Mexico calculates as follows: a family of 5 (example) has a standard of need of $630 monthly. If the household earns $100 in a month, that is subtracted from $630, and they receive a payment of $530. I don't feel like reading through everything, but that is not a whole lot of money.

Too many people live in the here and now and do not plan for their future. Whats the chance of promotion and a raise for you while on welfare?
