Sophia I'm a committed Christian too, but I think your post is being too stereotypical. I've met religious and non-religious people who are both miserable, angry people and upbeat as well. Just because people say they're Christian doesn't mean they don't have a mean streak. Lots do. Maybe it has to do with their level of commitment or something I guess
Oh please don't get me wrong; I have met many, many Christians that look like they are a perpetual state of constipation. I have just never met and really joyful atheists; others have. I want to know about them.
I didn't mention anything about "mean streak", not sure where you got that from.
I was thinking about this today. I have never met a really upbeat, positive, happy go luck atheist. Almost every one that I have encountered is doom and gloom, extremely cynical and generally miserable. Has anyone ever met a really happy atheist? If so, tell me about him/her. Thanks
I absolutely have, I've met many many peaceful and content atheists. Back in parts of Czech Republic, a country with one of the highest rates of atheism in the world. Also in other parts of Central/Eastern Europe and even here in the States.
Tell you about them? Tell you what exactly? They work, they live their lives and try to do right and be good to others. Well, they're just like you and me! Many are heavily involved in various charity organizations.
They don't do good because "Jesus tells them to" but because they want to. I know more atheists who abide by their morals than religious people.
Some of the most miserable people I've ever met have been the in-your-face Christians, here in the good ole USA.
Hey genius, the burden of proof is on the one making a positive claim. That's you if the words are too big to follow.
So since you claim god exists, you need to prove it. You can't.
Being logical, as most agnostic atheists are, I will totally admit it is not possible to prove a negative. OTOH logic alone suggests the lack of a personal deity.
How so? I can't profess to love and follow Jesus and hate anyone; those two ideals are mutually exclusive. I think you're confusing hate with disagreement.
Why do they/we annoy you? You readily admit that seeing someone truly happy bothers you. Why is that?
I have met many joyful atheists, atheists are among some of the most joyful folks I know.
To be perfectly honest while I am not an atheist I also am not Christian and I am quite happy. I have a wonderful family, solid friends, and am blessed with good health and a bright future. Additionally Christians don't really annoy me, I frequently work with conservative Christians and they are just people. They have times when they are happy and times when they are stressed and worried, just like every other kind of person. To be honest the only time in a long time I have been annoyed by a Christian in real life was when some Mormon missionaries kept on pestering me into talking about religion after I politely told them I did not feel comfortable discussing it on the street normally when I encounter normal people making religious references it is to express joy or gratitude so why should that bother me?
It doesn't bother me in the slightest to see people happy, because that makes me happy.

Perhaps a bit of seeing things that are convenient to some preconceptions maybe?

I have met some in real life. But, can't recall meeting any on a message board.
