Part of the ObamaCare law was to take $716 Billion dollars from Medicare payments to Doctors and Hospitals .... that money goes to Medicaid. Obama has made the decision to "save" Medicaid (which he has increased due to ObamaCare) at the expense of Medicare. An added problem here is that the number of people on Social Security Disability Insurance has exploded since Obama was elected. All people who are signed up for SSDI are automatically put on Medicare also.
White House adviser: Obama willing to cut Medicare, but not Medicaid - The Hill, January 2013
Quote:
“It means we’re going to have to look harder for Medicare savings, and those savings may be more difficult politically because of he choices we’ve made,” Sperling said. “If you decide you are going to protect Medicaid more, it means you’re going to have to make some tough choices in other places.”
The push to prioritize Medicaid over Medicare is a result of the Supreme Court’s decision last year upholding the Affordable Care Act as constitutional. The decision gave states the ability to opt out of the law’s Medicaid expansion, which was set to provide about half of the law’s coverage expansion before the court’s ruling.

And then there are the cuts coming in 2014 AND the Medical Tax that starts in 2014. $200 Billion will be cut from Medicare Advantage programs for Seniors and for those of any age on Disability.

New Report: CMS’ Proposed Medicare Advantage Cuts Will Result in Higher Costs, Fewer Benefits for Seniors
The new proposed payment cuts are in addition to the Medicare Advantage cuts and the new health insurance tax included in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Only four percent of the ACA’s $200 billion in Medicare Advantage cuts have gone into effect thus far, and the Congressional Budget Office projects that, when fully phased in, these cuts alone will result in three million fewer people enrolled in the program. The ACA’s new health insurance tax starts in 2014, and Oliver Wyman previously estimated that this tax alone will result in seniors facing $220 in higher out-of-pocket costs and reduced benefits next year and $3,500 in additional costs over the next ten years.

I don't know why people ignored the cuts in Medicare - Obama/Pelosi/Reid could not get the votes to pass ACA because of the high cost of it (in part) - they came up with a variety of "fixes" for the cost. Cuts to Medicare was one of them. Taking over the College Loan program was another way to get the money for the huge increases in Medicaid.
It's all about increasing the money to Medicaid because that is how people can get Tax Payer subsidies for their insurance. That money has to come from somewhere - it's coming from higher taxes, student loans and Medicare.
Medicare needs some reform, as does Social Security, but the 'reform' it needs is more difficult for these incompetents to deal with than just cutting payments to doctors - so they take the easy road. SSDI is totally out of hand with the shyster Lawyers, Doctors & Judges approving Millions that should be on disability. Our entire social net is under attack in the interest of ObamaCare. The Obama bunch somehow are convinced that they can force Doctors and hospitals to treat people and not get paid. They seem to believe that they can take away the insurance people have now and force them onto a Medicaid type of coverage.
People are waking up now that they are getting the information about what ObamaCare is really doing and what it will cost. It always amazed me that AARP was pushing ObamaCare so hard and yet it was always going to really hurt Seniors. AARP is really nothing more than an insurance broker now - they care about their captive audience and selling them insurance.
