^^^ I'm sorry, this story needs an adjustment:
A young mother in Oklahoma was home alone with her baby when she shot and killed an intruder. Sarah McKinley was on the phone with the 911 operator telling her that the man is trying to get into the house. She says to the operator, “I have two guns in my hands, if he gets in should I shoot him?” The 911 operator responds “I can’t tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby.” That’s just what this young mother did; she shot and killed the man as he made his way into the house. She was on the phone with 911 for 21[FREAKING] minutes before she fired.

I wonder how much longer before the cops got there to PROTECT and SERVE?

Anti-gun people cannot understand CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY LAWS. You can make as many laws as you want and it will not stop them.

Aids,Abortion, no connection to left thinking , I would like to hear from where you got this? Same goes for drug use , when the cause and effect is greater with prescription Meds. How do you break down who is to blame there, when booze is also a drug.
I am just saying when you try to blame any group for death numbers, including gun use you open up miles of discussion that goes nowhere. The last I knew this thread was about assault weapons, which at this point can't be discussed until there is an agreement what guns are considered such. What we do know, is the number of gun related deaths needs to be reduced. , especially when a pattern develops in public places, schools, etc. In stead of trying to blame one side or the other , what would help is working together. What if we could reduce the numbers ,say 12,000 to 8,000 by removing some kinds of guns from public access ,?
Even if you accomplished banning the sale of a certain weapon the existing ones out there will be around forever. Guns have a very long shelf life.

It works both ways. For example, while the Mossberg model 500, and the Remington model 870 12-gauge pump shotguns are considered "civilian" firearms, even though the military has used them both extensively in combat. Does that make them "assault weapons?" If not, then why would a semi-automatic military weapon in the hands of a civilian be construed as an "assault weapon?"

If you make the definition of an "assault weapon" broad enough, any weapon used against another person could be construed as an "assault weapon." Which is why the anti-gun crowd wants to keep the definition of an "assault weapon" as ambiguous as possible to further their heinous and insidious agenda.

Seems to me it would be a big deal if a homeowner whipped out his Bushmaster and started to blast away at the intruder. Seldom hear of anything along those lines and of which, would be great news story.
Further, we all know why gun control is back in the news, its the horrible ( most people think this is so ),event in CT. Interesting thought, I wonder how this Kids Mother would have defended herself when She was sleeping when her son pulled the trigger ? Do we blame her for not having all her guns locked in a safe ?
A large portion of our "death by firearm" rate is suicide. Another large portion is criminal on criminal violence, especially gang members killing each other.

As far as guns used in self-defense, for some reason, the national media rarely reports it, but it happens frequently. Most often you'll only find out from a small local newspaper, or from reading police logs.
