Why isn't that parent WORKING full-time to support the child they had? Parenthood is a responsibility. Vanity jobs are NOT an option.

Ph.D. student means working day and night even weekends in Labs and classes. But money do not refect 50-60 hours you put while doing Ph.D. and it comes out to be less then minimum wage. Atlease Servers manage to get some Tips while getting less then minimum wage.

She's not a student. She's already earned her PhD in medieval history and wonders why she doesn't have a full-time high-paying job in her field.

Forget the vanity academic job. She needs to work full-time to support her child.

I am also middle class and you are exactly correct. I choose to teach and coach but have through 403 B over the years have had the ability to save well over 1 million dollars so that when i choose to retire i can do so comfortably. The same laws that helped you keep your wealth helped me gain mine. My first year of teaching i made 8000 a year . While my yearly income now is much better it qualifies me as middle class . I chose my financial path and understand the laws the loony left complain about our the laws that help people gain wealth. The laws are suppose to helpa ll people not some. And what are we doing now we are trying to keep people from getting wealthy and punish those who are. I can not define if its socialist or communist but the hate the rich is stupid left wing propaganda

Wow. Some liberal arts fields don't pay very well. Who knew?

Planning, people. It's a responsibility. Don't be under any false impressions that most jobs in the liberal arts fields pay well.

Its not about History. A close friend of mine has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M. That was like 4 years back. He is working as a Post Doc and Part-Time faculty for about 13000 Dollars yearly salary. Try raising a Family on that. He is dependent on Food Stamps.

Is he trying to work in industry?

If that was me, I'd take that Ph.D right off the resume and get myself a job as a regular Master's degree educated engineer.

Why the vanity faculty position? Why not a real job?
