It's pretty much already been decided for cases like this. Thus the castle doctrine law.

There's a huge disconnect with denial of reality here.
All the more reason for mama to have kept him home.

On the other hand, some kids will not stay home.

Police rarely get involved in this sort of stuff unless there's a solid reason to believe the minor was kidnapped. This most definitely is not limited to inner city ghettos.

That's BS. It's that Americans want that work ON THE BOOKS while illegals will do it off the books for less money.

Stop reading the pro-amnesty articles and open your eyes.

You're in RE so you should be aware of what's happened in construction.
Did all those Americans just decide overnight that they were above their blue collar, decent paying jobs and just quit ?

The jobs you listed are the easiest ones to pay cash off the books.
Why did you leave construction out of your list ? That's another area taken over by illegals.

And yet, so many of these cases are not clear cut, especially when the burglar is unarmed. Then there's cases where the occasional paranoid guy open fire on a car in their driveway or on anyone unknown at the door. Occupants have been convicted of second degree murder. Regardless of who is convicted, the appeals often go on and on.

What was the point of starting this thread? A 15 year old was shot and killed and the homeowner is protected by the laws of his state. What point is the OP attempting to get across? There are sadly way too many of these stories nowadays and what exactly is controversial about this? Could he have shot the kid in the leg as opposed to killing him...who knows? Should he have ran inside and called the cops? Maybe, but really OP what is your point?

IDK, but generally burglars are not armed. If they are armed, they are usually robbers.

It just goes to show you that hell is composed of violent criminals and those bleeding hearts that weep for them, coddle them and offer manicures for their bloody claws. Nauseating.

You simply cannot make a law saying that it's okay for kids under a certain age to break into homes and do whatever they like. You cannot make doing these horrendous crimes safe for the criminal.

You have to look at what caused this kid to do a home invasion. And then address those problems.
There's a huge difference between an attempt and actual entry. I am one of those people who chooses to not own a gun. I also choose to not live in a rural area. I choose to live in an area where people are willing to pay more for more than adequate Police response.

I invest in good locks.

I have a dog who will bark.

I don't trend paranoid and choose not to use substances that would induce paranoia or impair my judgment.

I also know that throwing on the lights is often the most effective deterrent because most burglars just want stuff and I don't care about my stuff. It''s insured and replacable. I also have the option of hitting a switch that will cause an alarm to awaken the dead.

Attempt to break in at my front door and I have the option of leaving my home through other doors/ windows.

I choose to not worry about highly unlikely scenarios where all exits in my home are being attacked by intruders at once. I mean if someone wants me dead bad enough, they are going to gun me down in a parking lot at the grocery store when I am putting bags in my trunk. I also choose not to worry about a meteor hitting my home.

If I lived in a rural area, I would need a different strategy and that might include owning a firearm and substantial training to use it.
