Considering the outrage and controversy at Mrs T being given a ceremonial funeral at the cost of 10 million pounds during a time of austerity I don't think most Brits are going to notice much....

She was the most divisive politician possibly in British History and her toxic legacy is still with us to this day.

Her funeral is an outrage and morally bankrupt decision considering we are told there is no money for nurses, social workers or teachers but plenty for a multimillionaire whose family could afford to pay for her own bloody funeral.

The woman who hated "parasites" and "scroungers" now scrounging off the British taxpayer. Quelle surprise.

The decision not to send any current administration representative or the first lady to the funeral is a classless, tacky and very shallow decision.

Agreed. Baker and Schultz will be there as well. If President Obama, the FLOTUS or VP attended, the RW would be screaming that they're needed here. Same tiresome automatic criticism we've grown used to when it comes to President Obama. Get over it.

Why not? This will be a busy week for the president pushing gun control issues. Really, they couldn't even spare that moron Biden? This is a truely classless move by a classless president.
So what? It's a non-state funeral for an elder stateswoman who had not headed the British government since 1990 and has no political ties to the current administration. Big fat hairy deal. I wouldn't expect members of David Cameron's cabinet to attend a funeral for a deceased US President.

Why exactly ?

She left office in 1990 , over two decades ago ( after being forced out by her own party and stabbed in the back by all the hypocrites in the Conservative party who have now elevated her to political icon ).

I can see why a Head of State would attend another Head of State's funeral but some old woman who left politics over two decades ago ?!?! Why waste the money which could be spent on something more useful on someone who did not die in office ?!?! Will the US send a representative when Gordon Brown or John Major die ? I would be surprised.

Margaret Thatcher was never head of state. The head of state in the UK is the Queen. The Prime Minister is the head of government.

In the US, the same person is head of government and head of state (POTUS).

You mean like more money for the scroungers and parasites? LOL

One thing I agree on is spending that money to improve the Brits teeth. Free tooth brushes and bridge work for everyone.

I know that. I live here. But to me as a Republican Cameron is my Head of State as I do not really recognise the Monarchy as a valid system of governance. So yes Queenie is strictly Head of State. But Cameron is the one who inflicts his policies and actually has the real power politically....

He is the one pulling all the strings and whose party is responsible for the daily life of 60 million people. And in my eyes Merkel is also Head of State of Germany not Joachim Gauck. Not the correct legalistic term but what I consider a Head of State.

I think you knew what I meant anyway. Just playing the semantics game it seems. Thatcher was the one who brought Britain to its knees she should be considered the one who was the Head of the country.

Not sure Nurses, Firemen Policemen or Doctors count as scroungers but of course being a European "socialist" I might have different notions than you !! Front line staff and essential services have been savaged ( including for example mental health departments and resources) and the biggest scroungers as usual are not people on social benefits but bankers and fat cats.

I think you'll find out most Brits under the age of thirty now have pretty decent teeth. Braces are now pretty common on kids. The cliche is a little out of date.

Granted few Brits have that glow in the dark fluorescent shade and the scarily perfect smile of many Americans but not quite as bad as they are reputed to !
