Americans are heavily race minded. Because there are so many races, it's easier to fit in with your own and judge the rest.
You've read, and you make up conclusions.
I have actual experience with mixed race couples and their families.
My experience differs from your "stories".

There is no such thing a a race card. Someone is either racist or they are not.

Why do people see interracial relationships as a step in the right direction? Is it not a good thing for people to maintain their culture, heritage, customs and language? I watched the below video and I like the couple, but she is Sudanese and he is Australian. They are so different culturally. Their children will not have any traditional Sudanese values and will not look like either of them. Can someone please explain why this is a good thing?

I apologize if some may be offended, this is not intended to offend. I am just trying to understand the Western culture and customs better.
The simple answer:

Culture in America (and Canada) is movable, meaning that it is not tied to centuries of tradition. What is defined as American culture and traditions today are very different than they were 100 years ago, and that is because of a continuous influx of immigrants who add their own mix to the national pot. This culture will continue to evolve, and those who stand in its way will be left behind.

This is where the west is very different from Europe and Asia, who have far more static cultures and much difficulty in integrating migrants. If you consider French culture, for example, it's very static. It means a very certain thing to be French, and many immigrants are implicitly excluded from taking part in it. You have the yahoos who say "Well, just learn French and become Catholic!" But no, that will never work, because French = white with Gaulois roots, and if you're a dark skinned Moroccan, you will never be that.

Anyway, back to the point: interracial marriages/romances are the physical manifestation of this idea of the melting pot. That's why they are seen as socially progressive - they are literally bringing society together and bridging gaps.

*Yawn*

Only a fool would think races are identical. There is a reason blacks always win long distance races right? Or is that just coincidence

Have you ever considered that some countries don't want others? Are you familiar with the phrase ''Europe for Europeans''?

Not every country wants to deal with the violence and lack of unity that melting pots like the USA suffer from. Why do you think so many Brits celebrated the death of Thatcher? She sold out her countrymen for banker/yuppie profits from cheap immigrant labor.

Americans don't have a choice. Your leaders have an open door policy for any/every human that is willing to steal your job for less pay. Unless you are the CEO, you don't benefit whatsoever from the melting pot.

I said nothing at all about how easy or difficult assimilation is. I only said it happens.

I'd put it differently. Artificial barriers to personal choice in relationships are restraints on personal freedom. If we were keeping gun enthusiasts from their guns, instead of people from their chosen, everyone would understand. But freedom in the one case is seen somehow as different from freedom in the other.

I don't think society should PURSUE interracial relationships as some kind of goal. It just ought to butt out of all relationships, stop pursuing racial purity as a universal unquestioned good. Mixed races have produced some human good. Racial bigotry has produced some evil. So stop pushing people in any direction. Just let them follow their own values.

''Fine with it" ? Pretty board statement. Your 2nd statement is one only made by someone of mixed raced, dating some of another race or has family with mixed race. Sorry that makes you bias on the issue. Your circle of friends might share your opinion but there is no way 51% of this country favors interracial relationships.
You do realize "fine with it" and "favor it" are two different things - right? Or maybe not.
