Let's keep this positive please. Just curious how are other families in Houston dealing with this new changes in the Boy Scouts now allowing gay kids. I am usually pretty tolerant when it comes to gay as long they keep their sexuality out of my face. With the new rules it seems that they did just that, sticking into my face and now I have to deal with it. Is not wrong or right and I have my own opinion. I am just curious how other parents are dealing with.

Now I am worry about having my son sharing the tent, the shower, the playground with a gay kid hitting on him. I think there should be some separation right? Might as well combine the Boy Scouts with the Girl Scouts and let the orgy begin? Something doesn't feel morally right here or is just me being crazy?

Again please keep it positive and constructive

I"m considering allowing my kids to join now, though I still don't like that they're excluding gay adults. I don't want my kids learning that it's okay to be intolerant and exclusionary.

Oh, and by the way OP, you haven't really started out on a "positive and constructive" note, in assuming that gay kids are "sticking it in people's faces" and planning to hit on your kids in the shower.

So by just being gay a kid is sticking it to your face?

You are being ridiculous.
Why dont you stop sticking your heterosexuality and prejudice in the kids

Spent many years in cub scouts...den leader, cub master etc. last year after receiving his arrow of light and crossing over my son decided on his own that he no langer wanted to be a part of an organization that did not openly include everyone. He is now talking about going back. We were proud of him for taking a stand and fully support him if he wants to rejoin. By the way I don't believe that gay kids will be a threat in the shower .. They have been there all along.

What if your kid ended up being the gay one ethan? Would you pull him out of scouts to make sure he doesn't start hitting on the other boys in the shower? Also I don't recall taking a lot of group showers in Boy Scouts, maybe you guys run things differently these days.

I don't have a problem with it but don't have children either. I was never allowed to join the boy scouts as a kid no matter how much I begged.

My father was not worried about gay kids he was worried about some sick ******* molesting me or my brothers and quite frankly that would still be my #1 concern regarding the boy scouts when I do have children of my own one day.

Keep this positive? Did you read your own post, Ethan? You should take your own advice.

First of all - since when does being gay mean that that is the only time people you don't want hitting on you will be hitting on you? Women have to deal with men hitting on them (that is unwanted by the way) ALL the time. And I'm sure there are men out there that have had a coworker or colleague whom they weren't interested in hit on them.

Second - why do you assume that being gay instantly leads to mass shower orgies or something? Life at camp or a scout meeting or a field trip is not a porn movie. Sorry to burst that bubble for you.

I am a girl scout leader. We did a camping trip (even had showers and group sleeping arrangements ), go on field trips all the time, etc. All I can say is I can't see how sexuality comes in to play...ever. They are there to make friends and have a good time and learn things. They are in scouts to help them be a better person.

It's not like gay people are new on the market, and have just suddenly appeared. If parents are THAT worried - then instead of ***** about it - why don't you step up and become a scout leader, or at the very least a parent volunteer for the troop. Then you can see what really happens, and draw your own conclusions about whether or not there is something to be "worried" about.
